.......................How to keep from losing stuff around the house..(edited)................

Last edited Sat Dec 7, 2019, 03:54 PM - Edit history (2)

..I just almost lost an important bill, because I wasn't paying attention to my inner voice that said, "No, don't do that" I was going to lay it on top of a pile of stuff. (but I caught myself this time....Yea!!!!!)
...Here is the information, and it is very simple. If it is an important thing, (whatever it is) place the thingie in an open space, where you can see it.......That sounds simple enough, don't it??

...If you keep some table tops and counters totally EMPTY of stuff, and then you place something on that empty space..(and it is an important thingie) then you can see the thing, no matter what it is. It is not covered up by anything, and as you look for it, it will be in plain sight and easily found. That is the secret, and guess what?....IT IS NO SECRET..!!!!!!!!!

..Now keeping empty spaces is difficult for me, cause I got to save everything..OK.. ( I have accepted that about me)... but I misplace things, and spend hours looking for them, then I need to keep spaces EMPTY..so I can place stuff that I want to find on top of that empty space. The thing can be a bill, a book, a reminder, a letter, some sort of small instrument, a roll of tape, a tool, a special pen or pencil that reminds me of something, a check, or a checkbook, ...or anything that gets covered up by another thing)

...If I cover it up, and can't see it, it could be lost for days...BUT............AND THIS IS AN IMPORTANT BUT.....(not this kind of butt) you know like a beautiful model's butt) ...But if it is a special thing, and I can see it in an empty space that is occupied just by that thing, then ...it will not be lost at all, it will be found in a very short search....

...I know it sounds ridiculous, but I spend hours sometime looking for things, and this is a way that really works. REPEAT, iF THE THING IS IMPORTANT, PUT THAT THING IN A PLACE THAT YOU CAN SEE IT, (all of it, not part of it) then when we do the inevitable search, it can be found rather quickly because it is seeable, and can be seen right away, rather than covered up by an old magazine, or a new magazine, or a book, or anything else. If it important, and you don't want to lose (edited) it,......
..............THEN KEEP....IT....WHERE YOU CAN SEE IT..........(not covered by anything else)

........ (Time is up for this one, I got to go look for my check that was sent by the government for last year's tax return...????.....oops....I just made that one up for a laugh) ....maybe this idea will work, and if it does NOT WORK...
.....DON'T CALL ME, CALL MR. TRUMP..........................................................................................................................
...he thinks he knows everything, but, and ...Trump is indeed a stupid fromp.

.(...no, I don't know what a fromp is, I just made it up, in order to end this one, good luck!!!)

O' course, there's been a LOT of things that I was a mite bewildered about as to their whereabouts for, oh, maybe a couple years or ten............

(had a package once that I was supposed to mail to a friend. Seven years later, I found it in the garage attic........I can be a real dolt sometimes.)

Of course, everyone does. Get some inexpensive magnets and stick important things on your refrigerator with those magnets. Some of them can even say things like "Urgent" or "Must do immediately" or "Don't lose this."

That's my free advice, but next time I'll have to charge you.

Sure, it's nice to see one every once in a while, like a dolphin that pops up unexpectedly when you are at the beach. But rare.

What (mostly) works for me is to have a specific place for something and then DARE any other human in the house to move it from that space without putting it back. True, I do have one catchall basket in the kitchen but that is only for things I'm going to need sooner rather than later.

Also, I group things with likely items. Bills, checkbook, invoices, statements ALL go in one green folder together. When I have paid said bill, it gets moved or shredded. Green folder is welcome to live in the basket but it can't stay in there permanently. GF usually lives beside laptop.

..As I type these words, I am looking at 4 surfaces that would be considered "empty" with place to put more stuff.. One is an old typing table with an old typewriter on it. A bookcase with two sections completely clear of stuff. and some shelves in a storage case that are totally empty. It may not stay that way, but they exist. They exist in a world that is current..
Yes.... these spaces may not exist tomorrow since..." times they are a changing"..
But "Who knows?..The Shadow Knows"

He won't remember later, but somehow the act of me telling him sets it in my brain and I can remember whatever it was. Or at least it used to be that way. After the last four operations, my memory has gone to shit. Now I have to make lists - and so I don't lose my lists, I use an app that works on my phone and computer so I can find them where ever I am.

Would it be feasible to place this particular bill on an automatic payment plan?

Back in the late 90's, I had placed several of my utility bills on an automatic payment plan. The bills would arrive in the mailbox, money was taken out of my checking account the day before they were due, and at the end of the month I would double check my bills and bank statement to make sure the correct amount was paid on each. I didn't have to write a check, worry about buying stamps, placing the paid bills in the mailbox, getting nabbed with late fees from being late or forgetful, and at that time, there wasn't an extra charge for the convenience. Although, in the times we live today, there's a damn fee for convenience for just about everything.
