Something stupid really bothered me at work today.

Most people take Christmas week and New Year's week off in my office, and many people either wfh or are taking tomorrow off for the holiday.

Some people were leaving a little early and were wishing people a happy holiday season but one woman in my office said "I'm sorry, but I say "Merry Christmas" I am not politically correct" and started laughing like she was proud of being an ignorant asshole. It just totally bothers me that this is even an issue and that I have to think about what I say to people.

People have been saying "Happy Holidays" and "Season's Greetings" since the 19th century and this only became an issue since Fox News and their idiot followers decided to make it one. I can't understand why this is such an issue for them. When I left for the evening, she was still there and I just said, "Have a good evening" even though I won't see her until next year. I didn't want to play the game with her. BTW, she is also one of those people who is "ethically challenged", like most republicans. They are all such slimeballs.

Aren't you special. I'm glad you think that other religions aren't worthy of being acknowledged.

And having separated it from all the religious nonsense, I'm free to recognize it as a secular celebration of the season.

(And, yes, now that you mention it, I am special.)

of other faiths a "Merry Christmas" may not sit well with them. It's a matter of being considerate. Don't be so self-absorbed. And I am sure you are "special".

"Merry Christmas", it's just when they angrily insist that the ONLY appropriate greeting for the season MUST be "Merry Christmas" and rudely respond to a greeting of "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings" with a snide remark because they think it's too PC or because "it's taking 'Christ' out of of the holiday". It's just stupid to get all bent out of shape to make a big issue over someone wishing you well.

... because they've been TOLD it's an 'issue'.

For the truly stupid, saying 'Merry Christmas' is a great distraction from real issues.

It never was until Fox and the republicans made it one. I sometimes say both, depending upon who I am speaking to. It just irritates me that a simple greeting has become so politically loaded.

... are the dumbest people in the country - which is why the GOP has deliberately curried their favour for decades. Dumb people do as they're told, and vote as they're told.

Can you even imagine the average Dem voter saying, "Yeah, healthcare, the environment, the growing deficit might be important issues - but as long as the local mall is selling Christmas trees instead of Xmas trees, I know what's really at stake here."

I walk my dog around midnight. I am going to put a stickit on it saying, Being combative in the name of the Lord is the very definition of taking Christ our of Christmas.

That’s not to say everyone who says, Merry Christmas is a shitstain. If you are making a point of emphasizing your Christian privilege by doing so, then you have crossed over into the realm of shitstainery.
