Those child labor industrial years are what the billionaires have wet dreams about bring back.

4. Didn't care for it. Totally misses the spirit of Dickens' story, and ultimately, the message.

I can see how it might appeal to people who like to binge on Netflix fare.

Nothing wrong with reinterpreting the classics. This just isn’t it.

And we both liked this adaptation. Taking many liberties with the original and more grim, we felt is was a realistic interpretation of a scrooge too badly damaged for the kind of transformation depicted in my favorite version (1951 Alastair Sim) and hers (Muppets with Michael Caine).

The true test of a Christmas movie is whether it fills you with the Christmas spirit and will be a film to be enjoyed annually for years to come.

I don't think this adaptation passes that test.

In the words of GW Bush, "That was some weird shit!"

Most film versions take a few liberties, but this was totally out there. Who rewrites Dickens? Next Christmas are they going to turn Twelfth Night inside out?

The psychological torture of a child, child rape, animal cruelty, the sexual assault of Mrs. Cratchit, urine dripping onto Marley's face, F-bombs in 1843... it was revolting and depressing. We'll never watch it again.

Give me Alastair Sim, or George C. Scott any time.

The actress who played Mrs. Cratchit ( Vinette Robinson), played Rosa Parks in an episode from last seasons Dr. Who. Marley is played by Stephen Graham who plays Tony Pro in The Irishman and Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire from a few years back. Always fun to watch Andy Serkis. Not for youngsters or the squeamish.

saw him in those gangster roles too. He was in something recently called The Virtues. He can take on a lot of different type of characters. Also he got his start (I think) in a movie called This is England where he also plays kind of a hard ass.

Vinette Robinson was also in The A Word. A fantastic British series.

also, yes very Sweeney Toddish.... (this was made by the creators of Peaky Blinders) I agree it's not for youngsters. It actually has a rating of Mature audiences.
