God made the cat so that man might have the pleasure of caressing the tiger.

(111,367 posts)Somewhere I have an old newspaper photo of a big lion on his back and kneading the air with his front paws while a keeper scritches his chin.
I'll stick to lap panthers, though. They're cheaper to feed.

(26,298 posts)Wild Earth broadcasts twice a day from the Kruger National Park. The guides get VERY excited when word of the dogs crossing into their drive area is announced. We've seen some wonderful, scary, funny and sad behaviors from these beauties. There have been some in the area, recently, but they move so fast and so far, it's sometimes hard to find them.
However, lately it's been the leopards who are monopolizing the drives.

(51,478 posts)along about 4 feet from the road. Saw a leopard in a tree, but no wild dogs.
What I liked is the guides would use CBs to communicate exact locations of animals, but only spoke in their native language. We could hear the transmissions and then enjoyed the 'race' to get there, but were surprised by the animal.

(26,298 posts)The Wild Earth broadcasts come out of the Djuma game reserve in the Sabi Sands area of Kruger. They communicate back and forth with the game rangers and guides from the various lodges. Some drives are almost devoid of wildlife, and some have so much action it's almost overwhelming. We've been following a group of leopards, since some were tiny cubs. It's absolutely fascinating. We've witnessed some leopard activity that goes against the 'common knowledge'.
They are not allowed to ever show Rhino but when they were airing out of Kenya, they did allow filming the Black Rhino.

(12 posts)They are sublime creatures, aren't they? Strength, agility, speed... My old cat, Mooch (RIP), could jump from the floor to the top of the fridge, and he weighed 17 lbs...That never ceased to amaze me!!
