The giant, Jerome Robbins, shepherded this show to become one of the greatest and most successful Broadway musicals. The score, by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, perfectly captured the style and history of the people and drama in the show. The script, by Joe Stein, is an excellent example of concise and effective playwriting that melds seamlessly with the score.

Currently, there's a well-received revival playing in New York City that was directed by the masterful Joel Grey. I think it closes in a couple of days.
