i tripped at work yesterday and my right elbow (of course) took the brunt of the fall. it didn't hurt too badly at the time, but i did a write up for my boss and let him know before i left in case there was damage.
by the time i went to bed last night i could only bend my elbow from 45 to 90 degrees and it hurt like a mother. stopped into work today, got the claim started and headed to the er. it's a small radial head fracture, nothing major, but it hurts and is major pain in my ass. they put me in a sling and wrote me a script for painkillers. i go to the occupational health clinic on monday.
they gave me some vicodin in the er and i should have listened to my instinct to not take both of them. i haven't taken prescription painkillers since i fractured my ankle six or seven years ago and i have been so nauseated all day.
i'm stocked up on saltines, ginger ale and popsicles, but i'm hoping i don't have to use the pills much.
one of my bffs was wonderful enough to run me around today since i didn't feel comfortable driving, i have amazing friends.

(662 posts)Any damage to a joint is extraordinarily painful - and inconvenient. I landed on my elbow in a motorcycle accident a couple of years ago. I did not fracture anything and it was still ungodly painful.
I feel your pain and I hope it will not take too long to recover.

(24,146 posts)i don't hurt myself often, but when i do, i make sure it's something painful and inconvenient.

(4,033 posts)I broke my elbow in 2001. Totally smashed, they did surgery and installed screws (2). Did lots of physicall therapy. That's mandatory, no questions......do you understand??????
Due to the way it was broken, I don't have full range of motion (I cannot bring my arm straight). In about 2 years from now, I will have an artificial elbow replacement, and will be able to have full range of motion for my senior years.
Take the vicodin, it's your friend.

(24,146 posts)that sounds terribly painful, makes mine look like a scratch. i've got a lot more range of motion toward straight today.
i only took one vicoidin today and took it with food, so my belly feels a bit better.

(4,033 posts)do not underestimate the trauma that has occurred to your body. Do not push it. One day at at a time.
ouch - so it was worse than you thought. good thing you had it checked out. Hope it heals without too much trouble, but it is likley to become another personal weather-predictor I bet. (my whole body seems to be at that stage now, especially in winter)
the nausea from the vikes should dissipate as you continue to take them, but watch it - they are pretty nice and it easy to slip into using them when you could be going down to tylenol or aspirin.

(24,146 posts)i'm really watching the vikes, took one yesterday and none yet today, the ibuprofen is taking care of the pain well enough. the havoc they wreak on my body is not worth it for me.

(21,484 posts)I frequently say (and mean it) that I'd rather have broken bones than nausea. I can't imagine both at once.

(24,146 posts)i've just laid off the pain meds, ibuprofen and ice are working well enough, but my stomach is still pretty off.
how have you been feeling?
