(16,386 posts)Where I spent many a lunch hour sitting and watching the cheetas. I was always intrigued by how dog-like they were. Their physiques appeared more canine to me. Their paws look like dog paws and their claws don't retract like kitteh claws. They do purr, though. Interesting beasts, cheetas.

(27,159 posts)They can be leash-trained and no more dangerous than a large dog (if raised and socialized around humans).
Even in the wild, they are not aggressive and frequently have their kills stolen by lions, leopards, and even hyenas.
So you can pet domesticated cheetahs, definitely. Just make sure to not startle them as you approach them.
I didn't know that. I noticed they purr as well.
