Got to find a pub that has it.. A bit expensive so I'd like to sip a few before I take the plunge on a bottle...

Tasting Note by us with John Campbell at Laphroaig Distillery
Nose: Oily and buttery nose, with toffee, nuttiness, hickory, bicarbonate of soda, rum and raisin ice cream and zest.

Palate: Big rush of sweetness, in fact it’s an explosion of sweetness, with fiery chilli heat, TCP, sweet cereals and a touch of cola syrup.

Finish: Medium-length, but becomes fruity, with custard and cigar smoke.

Lately I have been enjoying my bottle of Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: Gristy, supple nuttiness intertwined with spices. Honeyed sultanas and grapes. Hugely inviting.

Palate: Sweet with good body. The bourbon characters develop; gentle spice with a little vanilla, a hint of balancing peat lurking quietly in the substrata. Dried fruit too, combining with nuts, nutmeg, cinnamon, back into the bourbon notes - so well integrated.

Finish: Spicy, slightly drying, still sweet.

Overall: A classic, always a pleasure to revisit. (This is also a single malt with the ability to convert a non-whisky drinker with its deliciousness...)

I drink Johnny Walker Black. I know it's not single malt but it's the taste I like consistently.

JW Black is my post-round treat on the golf course.

Also like the Chivas Regal 18 year old for a nice blend.
My father loved Chivas which was rare in our household back then.
When I was young I couldn't stand even the smell of the stuff, but I got educated to Scotch on a Scotland trip.
He'd love the 18 - and think I was a millionaire if he was still around!

Also keep a bottle of JW Blue on hand, a retirement gift from a colleague. So smooth.
Laphoig is too peaty for me as well. Taste of charred wood in my mouth for hours after tasting it.
For a single malt, my go-to is Auchentoshan 12 year old. Like caramel cognac!

For a nice domestic, I love the St. Augustine Distillery's Port-Barrel finished Bourbon.

Cheers!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: A cereal-sweet nose with notes of guava and mango, with a drizzle of honey.

Palate: Oaky and sweet palate, with barley sugar, a little passion fruit and vanilla custard too. Perhaps some rose petal jelly in there.

Finish: A lengthy, dry and oaky finish with barley sweetness and cocoa powder.

12. There's a video on Amazon about Scotch you might like.

It's called "Scotch, the golden dream." ( I think). I never drank until.I was 28, never liked anything until at a party somebody gave me a Chivas. I've been a Scotch drinker ever since.

6. Laphroaig is right at the top of my faves

the 18yo is terrific but I can't afford it (or, more accurately, just not willing to spend that much on a bottle of scotch) I have about a drop of the quarter cask left. It's maybe my second favorite. I keep a bottle of the 10 around in case someone wants scotch but I don't want them to stay all night drinking my scotch.

When I'm not feeling peaty I really like The Balvenie Caribbean cask.

I'll happily share my Buchanan's blend with anyone who wants to stay. It's partly because it's priced right, tastes great (And I don't mean "for a blend" - I Just like it) and my family line is a sept of the Buchanan clan. Getting my kilt and kit ready this week for a cruise in 2 weeks - I always wear my kilt to elegant night on board ship.
