Spot kitty has been my buddy for almost twenty years. He got his name Spot because as a kitten he looked like a black spot on the floor. He grew to be a fierce 16 pounds of feline majesty. He has really slowed down the past few months. I have him on CBD oil and its helping but... hes not eating much and is losing weight. Sometimes being the grownup and doing the right thing really sucks.

(20,584 posts)I guess doing the right thing is in a small way paying them back for all the love and healing they gave us. Peace to you at this difficult time.

(18,890 posts)It is very difficult to watch them decline, and in my experience it is almost always in the winter. If they make it to Spring they bounce back.
I had Spot Kitty as well, she was mostly white with a few big spots - a very sweet girl. My 20 yr old Ricki is an orange tabby that has noticeably slowed this winter as well.
Fur babies make life so joyful - but we know there will be loss and pain. It's all worth it for the love and companionship they give us.
Give Spot big hugs and treats - btw, the CBD oil is always a good thing !
Best to you and Spot from Ricki and me.

(30,745 posts)We had to help our beloved Claudia kitty across the bridge at sixteen. Our dog Kinsey left us just before Thanksgiving at fourteen and a half. We miss them. I don't know if I want any more pets.
Remember all the good times you had together.

(6,556 posts)Each one of them has left paw prints on my heart. For each of my fur babies, I have made the pledge to do the compassionate thing when the time comes to make the ultimate decision. It is hard, but it is also the most loving act when life becomes too painful for our cuddle buddies. Blessing being sent to you and to Spot. ~ Halle (8 yrs), Teddy (8 yrs), Feisty (20 months), Rebel (6 months), and me.
*All of mine are rescues. Halle and Teddy came to me as week old kittens, Feisty showed up on my doorstep as a 4-5 week old sick kitten that is now a healthy active cat, and Rebel was born to a feral mom cat (Baby Girl) late in the summer. He was very small and not very healthy, so he came into my house where his diet was more controlled and he's on L-lysine for immune system support. He has recovered and has added lots of kitten energy to the household.

I've been through this many times, with many loving pets, but it is never easy.
