The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsFun day with hubby. We picked up his Miracle Ear set and on the way home he said he could
low notes in Beethoven's 6th Symphony (think "King's Speech" ) he had been missing in the past. That is truly a wonderful thing!
It occurred to me that hearing loss is a safety issue too when you drive. We think it is only sight but impaired hearing can also be a problem.
He also got glasses for the first time in his life! (insert a few Bionic Man jokes here). He asked me how he looked. I told him he looked like George Clooney.
He's pretty pleased right now.

(7,715 posts)Have had terrible vision issues over the years, and it is such a blessing when it can be corrected!
Peace and love to you both.

(7,688 posts)he said, "Oh, you all know how I conduct Beethoven's 5th," (this was in 1979) -- and it was true. And he wasn't being weird or conceited, it was simply the truth. His beat pattern was hard to follow.

(2,602 posts)It was constant, very high pitched, and loud. Finally went to a hearing specialist who found I had some between moderate and severe hearing loss and fitted me with hearing aids. There are lots of causes of tinnitus, and hearing aids dont always correct the problem, but for me, the tinnitus was completely gone. My husband says I speak in a lower tone when wearing them.
Tell your husband it takes a bit of time, for me, about a month, for your brain to sort out background noise from stuff you want to hear. Initially, a toilet flushing sounded like an airplane landing, the refrigerator coming on sounded way too loud, and scratching my scalp sounded like Velcro ripping.

(5,737 posts)it is fantastic! It really cuts down on arguments LOL.
It's no longer a case of "She said, he said." Now it's "She said, he heard!"

I frankly don't think people should jog or bike ride with ear buds in.

(871 posts)When I was driving home after picking up my new hearing aids I never realized that my directional signals made a clicking sound...never heard it before!
This was meant to be a response to the OP.

(2,336 posts)to wear a hearing aid. He slowly seemed to withdraw from the world and passed away too soon for a healthy man.

(63,912 posts)The technology today makes these devices nearly invisible! No one looking at him could tell he's wearing them. The down side is the cost, of course...

(23,362 posts)I think that would be great, hearing aids and ear buds all in one.
