Artist Arranges Stones In Stunning Patterns On The Beach, Finds It Very Therapeutic (30 Pics)

https://www.boredpanda.com/stone-arrangements-beach-land-art-jon-foreman/

Jon Foreman discovered land art while in college and immediately fell in love with it. He felt that the natural world had more in it to be explored, particularly where he lives, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Since the area has an extensive coastline, a huge part of Foreman's work revolves around the stones he finds near the sea. Using everything from tiny pebbles to big rocks, the artist surprises beachgoers with mesmerizing arrangements that never cease to amaze.

"I create using many natural materials but stone has proven to be the material which I can manipulate best. Be it color, angle, shape, size, placement, spacing," Foreman told Bored Panda. "Typically, I either start with a rough idea of what I'd like to do or no idea whatsoever! Then I collect what I can carry and start by placing stone by stone, steadily losing myself in the process and disconnecting from the stress of everyday life."

This took some time and talent. More photos and some descriptions at the link.

nature is the best artist for me.

You ever check out Andy Goldsworthy? Same kind of stuff.

So much that some of the places I visited in Canada and the UK asked people to NOT stack stones.

It's only marginally better than the people who have destroyed natural formations for spurious reasons. Or those who spray paint them.

Stacking small colored rocks on the beach is more like building sand castles on the beach and quite the opposite of the vandalism of protected national parks you posted.

I can see how the assemblage could be very relaxing. Take your mind away and just focus on giving Mother Nature a helping hand to express her beauty.

You just gave me a great idea of something to do in my backyard. It won't look nearly as good because I don't have any artistic talent. But I'm going to try.

The heck with the backyard. I'm going to put them in the front yard!

a monster who, if you fall into its gaping maw, it will take a thousand years for you to be digested.

My favorite is the little Henge in the top photo, and the mandala immediately below. The mandala is really neat.

I also like working with stone, although my "creations" lean toward small retaining walls, planters and rockeries. My favourites are blasted rock - of which there is PLENTY around here - I once asked my contractor neighbour if he knew where I could get some easily, and he pointed me to a site where there were 600 dump trucks-full for the taking. And I really like ledgestone, although that isn't as common here.

I GREATLY favour the look of dry stack or deeply raked mortar. Nothing I do is artistic like this, but I could see myself taking some inspiration from it.
