Across the road a neighbor threw out a twin size box spring and mattress. It's not a common thing to see in this neighborhood, but there it was. Then this morning a red pickup truck stopped by the junk pile, got out to take a look at the trash and not surprisingly, took the box spring and put it in the back of his truck. I'm all for this kind of thrift so I was okay with it. But the surprise came when he pulled out another box spring that he had in the pickup truck and put it on the trash pile before leaving.
And to put the perfect topper on this story, I left the development and I saw ANOTHER single mattress in somebody else's trash pile. What probably happened was that he got the first from that pile, and then shopped around, trading it in for the one across the street. And he did it before it started raining.
Someone's trash is always someone's treasure.

(16,254 posts)A woman stopped, went through my stuff, made a pile outside her car and then sorted through the items she'd already picked up somewhere, unloaded them from her car, put them on my curb and loaded the items she'd selected from mine.
Her car was so low, I thought the tailpipe would drag on the ground. I always wondered if she made it home.

My estimate was that at least half of what was put on the curb found new homes.
