is currently available on Netflix.
It is, without a doubt, my favorite movie. The cast is made up of nothing but future stars, the cinematography is astounding, the theme music will haunt you.
I am watching it again, even though I know every line of dialogue. I have seen it over a hundred times.
If you have never seen it, treat yourself.
If you know it, enjoy again.

(3,627 posts)Blade Runner came out the same year (1982) as the original TRON. TRON of course WAS the original CGI showcase -- but the tech was so primitive that after the mainframe computer drew the cell for each frame, human animators had to hand-color them because the computer couldn't do that. Both movies have fascinating making-of documentaries.

The tears in rain monologue is one of the finest moments in cinema history.

The last scene in The Third Man is the only thing comparable for me, and it is not what is said, but what is seen/imagined could be.

(2,220 posts)Final Cut was not my favorite of the possibilities. I think I like the original with the voice-over the best.
And that one suggested they moved North and survived.
The soundtrack is just incomparable. Vangelis is the Master.

(63,215 posts)Nothing is gained by making him a Replicant, and everything of value is lost.
Nevertheless, it's a nearly perfect film, aside from some unhelpful redundancy.
Incidentally, the sequel is beyond excellent. Also very close to a perfect film IMO.

(9,730 posts)But what a shame about Sean Young. She was beyond gorgeous in "Blade Runner."

(63,215 posts)Gaff made several origami figures in the film, none of them explicitly stated to tie to any specific statement or thought; the viewer is left to make the connection, obvious or otherwise.
In that light, the origami unicorn is intended to create ambiguity for the viewer re: Deckard's status, but it's by no means proof that he's a Replicant. It could as easily be a metaphor for chasing an impossibility (life & love with Rachael), a teasing response to Deckard's purity of focus, a reference to Rachael's virginity (and a way of taunting Deckard for taking it), and the list goes on.
The only explanation that suggests that Deckard is a Replicant is, to me, the least compelling.
