Why does every store - grocery store, convenience store, most retail outlets - have to have music. Grocery stores have programmed crap, non-stop. Other stores usually have the radio going. What is wrong with no noise? Yeah, yeah, I know. For grocery stores, at least, they can point to "studies have shown. . . " Well, this shopper just hates it. I know it should be somewhere in the background, but I'm so aware of it, it's front and center. And sometimes I end up with "ear worms" of classic rock that really has no place in the grocery store. Maybe it's a grand conspiracy to keep the royalties rolling to the artists. And for mom and pops, it's the radio. Why? Even mom and pop aren't listening to it, why do they think they're customers will like it.
Two local pizza places have tvs on opposite ends of the dining areas, so you can't avoid them, and I'm not even talking about Fox. Mostly news or sports. I don't like sports. People die doing sports. I just want to eat my pizza in peace. But noooo. I gotta watch sports center or some such.
Or maybe I'm just (getting) old and crotchety (how and when did that happen, by the way, and, while we're on the subject, where did all this gray hair come from?).

(102,286 posts)Albeit those stores that interrupt their background music every 15 seconds with some kind of overhead announcement should just give it up.
