I just got an e-mail that my gym is closing til further notice. For the best, I think. It is a facility run by a hospital, and I trust their judgement. This was also the last place I was going outside the house, except to walk outside, as I work from home.
I normally go four days a week, and do cardio and strength training. I've had to miss a lot recently, due to some issues with panic attacks, and had just gotten back to going regularly after missing a lot. I'm kind of sad about that, but things are what they are.
I figure I can do burpees, all sorts of ab exercises, push ups, jog on nice days, I walk laps around my basement as well. What else are people doing?

(15,751 posts)If they close, I've been meaning to do stretching and yoga - will try and do it much more. Have to have a regular time though.
[My gym is huge [University and County partnership], its been at least 1/2 empty. Easy social distance - just careful wipes. doesn't need to close - imho ].

(32,715 posts)it is loomy sand and easy on the knees. Not great for growing grass and I have 2 acres of it.

(4,723 posts)A former resident had basically graveled the whole yard at one point in the past. The gravel is mostly gone now, but it is a sickly looking yard. A track around the property might actually make it look better.

(17,327 posts)I was able to join him recently. A week ago I told him we shouldnt go as he is very high risk. And low and behold got an email from them today saying only level 1 and 2 patients should come and level 3 and 4 must stay away come.
I have to get myself more motivated. Just made plans to walk in the morning for a couple miles with a friend who lives in the same neighborhood....but we will stay 8 feet apart! So not much chatting just company.

(4,723 posts)I think it was wise. I can guarantee I will be doing plenty of walking and jogging for the foreseeable future!

(17,327 posts)Cardio rehab gym staffed by nurses and physical / exercise therapists
Level 1 and 2 ( Im not sure of the difference. Might be a clip level after reaching halfway point between first and 36th required exercise sessions)
* patients arrive, sit down for a few minutes then
* and have their blood pressure taken and if diabetic have their blood sugar checked
* then they put on a monitor with 5 sticky tabs in different spots on chest (staff will help if needed). The staff monitor heart rate etc throughout their workout
* then the patient weighs themselves and reports it to be written in their file
* the patient finishes a workout defined by staff, throughout the staff will ask them how they feel on a scale of 1 to 16.
* after workout they rest 5 minutes then get their blood pressure and heart rate checked again.
Level 3: Heart patient who complete phases 1 and 2
* no longer has to wear monitor
* takes their own blood pressure
* decides their own exercise routine (machines, time, resistance etc)
* keeps their own record of progress in their folder
Level 4: no heart event or surgery, but preventive based on Drs recommendation/prescription
* same as level 3
This rehab has done wonders for my husband. I highly recommend it. Yell if you have any questions.

But I miss swimming! I went a couple of times last week but didnt feel secure enough about the risk level. Research suggests the usual chlorine level kills the virus in the water, but since we know it can be airborne I dont feel like breathing that in stroke after stroke. By the time theres research showing its safe the gym will probably be shuttered.

(1,856 posts)I wont push any one particular workout, you can google it up and find any number. Im in my 50s and half of my workout consists of rotational core focused moves using both the medicine and stability ball, or the dumbbells.
I live in the north country and we go Nordic skiing every day, which the dog loves just as much as we do.

I appreciate the social aspect of the gym too, and Im not alone. I wonder how many folks wont make it back? Every time you slack off (for the summer, for a vacation, because you started a new job) its a challenge to get back into the routine.
