Its a graduate research fellowship for grad students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Itll provide him with a generous monthly stipend for 3 of his 5 grad school years in his Ph.d program. He was already fully funded; this just adds a bit more each month as his university will replace his previous stipend with this more generous one.
Competitive fellowship.
