My son works in a grocery store.

He came home from his shift today and told me that they are going to install Plexiglass barriers on the counters so that the cashiers will have some sort of barrier now between them and the shoppers. And they're also only going to open up every other lane, to keep people apart even more.

Even though it's better late than never ..... I feel better about him working there, now.

He says the store is more crowded during the early shopping hours for seniors than it is the rest of the day.

I was there around 11 am today and found just about everything i needed. There was lots of everything, they even had toilet paper although it was a generic brand and you were limited to 2 packages. Everyone was keeping their distance .... granted, there weren't a whole lot of customers. I saw people here and there wearing masks, both old and young.

I'm going to try to just use up what we have and what I just bought for the next 30 days. We are hearing in Ohio that things will get worse with this virus before they get better. And my area, NE Ohio, has the highest concentration of cases in the whole state.

I hope all you grocery workers out there stay safe and I hope your stores are taking precautions to keep you safe!

Does Trump have a lot of support there? And has there been any concerns about his handling of this mess and the role he played by downplaying this issue in the beginning?

If I had to hazard a guess I'd say around here it's like the national average, about 40% Trump supporters.

Even though our governor is a Republican, and I am certainly no fan of his, I will admit he has been doing a pretty good job listening to the experts before making any decisions in regards to coronavirus issues.

Glad that you have a reality based Governor.

We’ve been fortunate, we have Gov. Inslee.

Hmmm, it's almost as if it's the working class that keeps the economy moving.

they're disinfecting the carts and keeping customers 6 feet apart at the check stands. The plastic barriers is a good idea and i hope they will do that although it won't change my son's job.

we're in NC, where we now have 1522 confirmed cases of coronavirus. started March with zero.

are you doing anything to protect yourself from your son (assuming he lives with you, as mine does)? I'm not hanging out with my son as much and haven't hugged him in ages, but we still sit down and eat together. Fortunately we don't share a bathroom.

i really think that we should all be wearing masks prophylactically when stepping out, based on this video, and another from a doctor at Cornell. Of course, good luck getting one now.

Before he goes out to his car when his shift is over, and again when he gets home, changes his clothes right away. His room is the only one upstairs. No hugging, which is awful (for me, at least). Like you, we all sit down to dinner together.

My other son works in Cuyahoga County which is the coronavirus epicenter in Ohio. Fortunately it’s a small office with only 4-5 people there on any given day. He doesn’t go anywhere else, just to his office and back home ... no lunches from takeout, even.

I agree with you about the masks, but where do you get one these days?

Can you ask him if there is any time of day of the week, and the time, when there is a lull in the store?

Asking for a friend.

The early senior shopping hours are the busiest! The lull comes around 10am to 12 pm when he's there. He generally works from 5 am to 2 pm so as far as evenings go, he isn't sure.

I’ve only made two outings since this started—Whole Foods and Walmart, both during early senior hours. Neither was busy and both were reasonably stocked. Whole Foods seemed safer with all employees gloved, carts sanitized as you got them, and distancing lines at the checkout. Walmart only had some employees gloved and/or masked in what seemed to be their own personal gear, not store issue. I saw a young woman at Walmart—obviously not a senior—using the self checkout without gloves and she kept touching her face. Made me cringe.

My daughter-in-law (who I love like she was my own daughter) is a cashier, and in the area just north of Seattle, no less. I worry for her.

So there's a plexiglass upright at the pharmacist's windown, with an open gap below it to pass the meds through, and open on either side of the plexiglassed window.

If the danged thing is *air borne* wouldn't it swirl around the sides and below?!1
