Coronavirus House Cleaning -- What did you finally throw out.

My husband cleaned out the VHS tapes. We threw out my ABs and Buns of Steel tapes, but he held onto the tapes we used to record the programs to view later. He spent the entire day watching family DVDs and I caught him tearing up several times. He also watched the Cheers finale party, and said that he didn't realize it was such a hot show back when it was a hot show.

And then he watched a taped VHS with a grainy Star Trek Next Generation, (two Borg show special). I think there was a Frazier (back when Kelsey Grammer was still interesting).

The Frazier show was kind of funny because there was a young Mayim Chaya Bialik and my husband got all excited because he thought The Big Bang Theory was her first t.v. shot. What can I say. The man worked crazy hours until he retired. I explained to him that she was a popular child actor.

I don't need to keep that stuff any more and it's taking up way too much room.

It's nice to have a place to put your car but the garage also ends up becoming a place where unwanted stuff goes, possibly forever. The inside of my garage looks like a junk pile with a space carved out that's just big enough for a car. Stuff always expands to take up all of the space allotted to it.

folding the towels the same way I do, so our towel closet won't be the telling sign of how much of our individuality remains after 31 years of marriage.

So, I get it. LOL!

I declutter the house on a regular basis. Last fall, I threw away all my acrylic craft paint and now I need my paint. Whenever I declutter, I need those items that I tossed months ago. It never fails.

I have 2 large donation boxes on the enclosed front porch, almost filled. Tonight, I went through all my make-up and tossed out all the old stuff. I have no idea why I hung onto so much of that old crap. Then, I went through all my linens. My mom gave me all her old tablecloths and I don't like them---into the donation box they went. She also gave me ugly placemats, also gone into the donation box. Next, I'll be going through all the clothing. I'm in a purging mood. and it feels good to purge.

I have a very cluttered art studio, have already purged a lot, gave to my grandson's friends who are artists, and a daughter-in-law got a bunch of stuff. The other daughter-in-law got my collection of antique buttons I'd been given over 40 yrs. and she's thrilled to have them. There isn't anything I've gotten rid of that I've regretted.

Next, I found a big bag of marbles that I bought a long time ago, to give to the grandkids, had plans to sew them bags to keep them in, so that will be my next project. Finding the rules for games and printing those into little booklets for them. I loved marbles when I was a kid.

Hubby took all the old VHS tapes and converted them all to DVD.

I owned so I don't have much clutter left. It's kind of liberating. I haven't really taken much on since. I have much less storage space so I am aware of the fact that if I take anything on, I will have to get rid of other things.

I kind of feel burdened by possessions these days. It feels kind of good to travel light, although I have a hard time getting rid of my books.

...classics, especially the Astoundings and Unknowns. Irreplaceable. The only pulps with permanent literary value, apart from Black Mask. And it just had to be. They were nothing but crumbling paper, already hopelessly decayed. But they *are* only paper. In a time when tens of thousands are dying, there seemed to be something almost obscene about keeping forever old magazines which I literally couldn't even read anymore. Most of the good stuff in them I have in various anthologies and paperbacks...but it's goodbye to a big part of my life, and another piece of 20th century American culture gone...
