Don't get me wrong! I listen to great drummers doing insanely cool things, but what made Keith or Alex Van Halen, etc so good?

On edit: Not focusing in on them. They are great! I just hear music differently I am building guitar riffs in my head listening to them. I am certainly missing the finer points of their technique.
