Teachers all over the world are working 12-14 hours a day researching, writing, recording, and posting meaningful, relevant content in order to provide quality online instruction to their students.

(794 posts)I instituted Science School for all the concerns you have. I offer all and any student to ask a question. Qs are answered every day. Chemistry, physics, biology, earth science... What do you wonder about?
About 60 students aged 7-17 agreed ; only 11 remain. this is school with assignments. Every reply gets a reply.
I know lots and lots of science and how to talk to kids.
But overall the project failed. Kids did not ask questions or read follow-ups.

(18,276 posts)I'd say that many parents are, in fact, partnering with the professionals to help deliver the quality content that the teachers have researched and provided. Home schooling involves curriculum development and state approval.

All NYS children are currently "being taught at home". Those whose parents have approved IHIPs are being home schooled. The rest are being educated remotely by their teachers, often with the help of parents.

(17,931 posts)so is my next door neighbor and kids here most definitely aren't being "home schooled." They're being taught by qualified educators who pulled off the near impossible just as schools were closing down. No playbook. No protocols. They had to make it up from scratch and did a fantastic job.

Some truancy officers may find many reasons for student absence including theyve moved, their contact information has changed, or parents may not know their children havent been attending, or they dont understand what theyre supposed to be doing.
Or that the families are on the brink of financial disaster.
They may not be able to invest as much time with (students) on (their) reading program, on my math problems because it simply cannot be a priority in some households where we are struggling economically, Jenkins said.
My heart breaks....

(315 posts)after they have shown (and are still showing) maximum flexibility, creativity, and dedication to their students' learning, the other shoe to drop may be states laying off (highly unionized) educators...Betsy DeVos, Koch, and McConnell and their ignorant ilk are watering at the mouth at this prospect.

(13,893 posts)her teachers with coming up with some wonderful on line reading programs and her father and mother for hanging right in there with her. Aside from the socialization, educationally, she doesn't seem to have missed a thing. The teachers at her school only had about a week to put all of this together and they did a wonderful job as far as I can see.
