But I am offended by this OP’s headline.

There’s no way on earth that Queen Elizabeth would have ever uttered those words.

It’s a reflection of the course of life since that time. Today as she resides in Windsor Castle, Britain is cutting off from Europe, and a pandemic is keeping the family clear of London. Elizabeth has seen it all.

Much changes, but this has not -

Meanwhile, far away in another part of town
Rubin Carter and a couple of friends are drivin' around
Number one contender for the middleweight crown
Had no idea what kinda shit was about to go down
When a cop pulled him over to the side of the road
Just like the time before and the time before that
In Paterson that's just the way things go
If you're black you might as well not show up on the street

Her mother would crawl out of the grave and slap her if she did.

I get your point, but I remain in awe of the persistent dignity of Elizabeth II, and I abhor statements, presumably in her name, that offend her dignity.

not a quote, obviously. Perhaps it was impolite to conflate 1940 with 2020, but the sense of the world on the brink speaks to me.

On June 22, 1940 the Battle of Britain was 12 days old. Elizabeth would have had no idea of the carnage to come.

If only we had a leader as competent and dedicated as Elizabeth II to handle it. Instead we are saddled with an orange ignoramus.

Cheers!

So no, I disagree with your characterization. At that time she was already the future Queen, and would have been kept informed to a point and given information appropriate for her age. She would not have been kept in the dark about world events, and Britain was not blind to the dangers across the channel. She wasn't just some rich teenager with a fancy title.
