Hi all,
I am building a dollhouse, and trying to keep it authentic. It's easy to figure out the furniture, but hard to figure out what goes on it.
For a nightstand, I've got a lamp, a book, an alarm clock. Anything else?
And for a dresser, I'm clueless. I have shelves of clothes on mine, and my husband has all of his electronics, so we're not good examples. On my mom's, I remember jewelry and combs and brushes, but my dad died nearly 20 years ago, so I don't remember what was on his dresser.
SO! What's on your dresser?
And trust me, it probably exists in miniature.
Thanks!

Update: Thanks EVERYBODY SO FAR! I went to one of my favorite dollhousing on-line stores. I found a watch, glasses, a cellphone, coins, comb/brush set, photo frames, tissue box, lamp, glass for water. I did not check for sex toys. It is tempting to put a cat on the dresser.

(21,854 posts)I have a copy of potted plants on top of a tall dresser. This location is so high that the cats don't jump up there. It's also high enough to get light from the windows.
Some folks might have a small altar on a dresser, with religious statues and a small votive candle.

(206,114 posts)Also comb and brush and a hand mirror.

(28,847 posts)A phone charger. A clear jar of cotton balls.

(115,869 posts)I don't have one of those on mine because cat.
I would think most people keep their sex toys in a drawer, but it would be kind of fun if you could find a miniature...

(6,150 posts)While I haven't seen one, there is FIMO Clay, so all things are possible.
I definitely didn't think of that.

(11,879 posts)A tissue box, book, lamp.

(43,049 posts)that may be useful during the night. For the hell of it, stick CPAP and blood pressure machines on it.
His dresser would have male jewelry box...
cufflinks, tie pins, etc wallet, change. Maybe a comb, and probably a clothesbrush.
Your dresser would have a jewelry box, vast amounts of makeup, and a few perfume bottles. And pictures. Lots of pictures.
(At least that's how I remember it.)

(13,199 posts)Next to my lamp, water glass and a small towel just in case.
My dresser is general shelf space. Nothing is permanent on our dressers

(6,150 posts)Oh, what a great idea! I definitely didn't think about it. My cat used to sleep in my underwear drawer if I left it open.

Dresser: Nothing(much.)
I cannot keep clutter off of any surface in my home. If you've got nothing on your dresser, my hat is off to you.

(2,771 posts)My mom did dollhouses. For the perfume bottles she'd get little clear glass beads and glue even smaller silver or gold beads to for the tops. I don't know if that'd fly in some of the more professionally done houses but I always thought they were beautiful.

(11,686 posts)Nightstand ( on top ): medication, water ( at night ), kleenex box, hand sanitizer, and an African figurine. The shelf under: cell phone speaker, flashlight, and pens. The nightstand on the other side is actually a tv table and the only times anything is on it is when a friend stays the night but mostly one of my cats.

(24,054 posts)And if you have a cat on either the nightstand or dresser, there definitely needs to be on or more items knocked onto the floor.

(25,183 posts)there's a TV and the cable box, as well as a DVD player. On the nightstand, there's a lamp, and a small plastic basket with medications. And an emergency flashlight.

(14,276 posts)I have a huge bedroom (its my entire second story). I have a bed with no headboard. A comfy chair. A tv. A desk where Im working. A filing cabinet. Thats about it.
I like the open space. Until I bought this house, I was in cramped quarters my entire life.

(16,386 posts)Also a pet comb and brush. It's also very messy now that I look at it. I have a new nightstand all put together downstairs, I just haven't brought it up yet. This old wicker one is getting trashed.

(16,990 posts)in the middle with a decorative matching basket on top to hold the clutter or movies, etc. on the left, its the setup for the DVD. I would love to find a way to hide or remove that, but thats probably not possible.
Edit:second dresser, just a lamp and a glass tray with assorted jewelry holders, and another basket with plant.
Nightstand: A decorative box with another small candle on top. In the middle Ive had a really cool Buddha that Ive been loving for awhile and then a plant on the end. My husbands side is usually kind of blown out looking, but there are some stacked IKEA boxes to hide clutter, a glass tray for his watch and a nice chunky knit white basket to hide more clutter.
They are very large nightstands so they hold a lot. The lamps are mounted on the walls on either side of the bed.
Sounds like you have a fun project. If you really want to have fun, Pinterest will offer up endless pictures of stunning ideas.

(16,990 posts)its worked for me is just Googling subject matters, like patio ideas or refrigerator organization, whatever topic you want, and then I just look at whats served up. If I want to go back to things, I can usually find it like that, as well.
I have an account, but I dont comment. I dont even know if you can comment. Edit: ooops, of course you can comment. I havent looked for awhile after we finished some projects). I have had people obviously able to save what Ive viewed, so I guess they wanted to see the pages Ive viewed as a shortcut if they are looking for the same thing.
If I like a picture, Ill click on it and then click visit the site, which often gives purchase info for items or brand descriptions so you can Google. Im thinking of a furniture makeover site I found that was very informative with the knob links and paint color linked. Im going to see if I can find that again.
Ive had the same feeling as you, thougha crash course is needed.

(17,035 posts)different sizes, styles, material. I have a stack of books I'm looking through. And a long dresser scarf. My dresser belonged to my grandparents, and it has been part of my life since I was about 3 years old. Turning 68 soon. It is a lowboy, and very roomy.
I used to have a collection of cats on my dresser. All of your purchases sound fun.
