I work for someone who is disorganized, sneaky, and belittling. Just this week we were talking on the phone, he got pissed off at my difference of opinion on something, and hung up on me. Every time I start to give him a chance in my mind, he does something demeaning to remind me of the reality.
For a variety of reasons, I can't quit this job until next year at the earliest. He may also be leaving soon, so it's something I could ride out, because I love the job otherwise.
I don't necessarily need stories, I just appreciate the community and knowing I'm not alone. It's awful how someone in a position of power can do so much to destroy your enthusiasm for a workplace.

(46,051 posts)They're the worst because they control your pay. I hope he leaves soon or you can find something else.
I will tell you, one of the worst bosses I ever had was dismissed by the person over her. In part because of how she treated his employees. He took over and turned out to be the best boss I ever had. I hope something like that happens for you.

(115,719 posts)I had a job I really enjoyed, except that the boss sucked at being a manager. He wasn't a bad guy, but he was one of those people who was good at his original operational job and then got promoted to manager, which he wasn't good at. He'd give incoherent instructions which we tried our best to follow, but then he'd claim that's not what he wanted, so we'd show him the emails containing his instructions and then he'd get mad and say that's not what he meant. Fortunately there was a reorganization as the result of which another manager was appointed and he went back to the job he was actually good at.

(2,037 posts)and a friend recommended a book called, "How to Work for a Jerk." It helped her get by until he was transferred to another office and eventually was fired.
Just checked and it is on amazon.

(63,221 posts)there is nothing worse than having someone awful who has control over your financial security (assuming a paycheck is your financial security, which it is for most of us).
If you want to watch something cathartic and funny, may I suggest the movies "Horrible Bosses" and "Horrible Bosses II" starring Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Colin Farrell, etc.
They are pretty funny movies and help you to indulge your revenge fantasies, while remaining perfectly harmless. You can find them on Amazon Prime and Hulu for an extra fee.
