I don't dig any of the chains very much... I tend to prefer the mom-n-pop shops though a shitty pizza is still something i'll chow down on.
Also... I judge all shops by how much I like their plain old cheese pie... It's always the first slice I try.
My favorite is extra garlic, crispy bacon and artichoke hearts... Fuckin bomb
Annnnnnd.... Yes. I'll even do pineapple and ham... As long as there is some Cholula sauce for it

Brier Hill pizza is prepared with a generous amount of thick "Sunday sauce", bell peppers and romano cheese, as opposed to the more typical mozzarella. It is one of several dishes the Youngstown area prides itself upon, in much the same way New Yorkers value their distinctive thin-crusted New York-style pizza.

(25,902 posts)Pepperoni, possibly sausage. Also the pineapple and ham.
While I personally think things like onions, mushrooms, any veggies at all make the pizza inedible, the real point you're making is that whatever topping someone likes is just fine. As you said, the perfect food.

(38,601 posts)Not spicy, not sweet, not oregano-y sauce just a lovely, quality NY-style pie.
If I cant get a delicious plain pie, then pepperoni, sausage, onions, and jalapeños is the ticket! Theyll make any pie taste better.
Ill pretty much eat any kind of pie though. Even with anchovies unless its covered with em.

(2,751 posts)The pizza her mom made was so good! She wouldn't give up the recipe, but most of it was home grown. The sauce was home made with various spices and tomatoes they grew. I noticed mozz balls in the fridge, but have no idea where they came from.
She would slowly cook the sauce all day while making dough and gathering the various toppings. She didn't use many toppings, though. It could be a "Deerball" pizza if they had some venison. She'd make another with just veggies.
I've tried, but can't seem to come close It's also super fun and much better than the chain stuff.
Try your own

(2,751 posts)The sauce is definitely the special part of any pizza. I did see a couple animal bones in the sauce as it stewed. I assume from the deer her husband would harvest. Not sure how bones would add flavor. The marrow maybe?
Regardless, her sauce was killer and she still won't give it up. I asked my girlfriend for the recipe, but she didn't even know

(9,655 posts)Sounds kind of horrible, but it's delicious. I used to live in a town where this was the main item at the mom and pop pizza shops. It was such a big deal that the chains had to include cashew pizza on their menus as well.
I live in a different town now, so any time I want cashew pizza, I buy cashews and I take them into the pizza place. And I ask them if they will make me a cashew pizza. And they always say yes. I have to tell them how to do it.
It's your basic cheese pizza, with halved salted cashews.
You have to put the cashews under the cheese so they don't burn. Yum! 🍕
And pizza IS the perfect food, no matter what kind of pizza you want!
