1. Pick a vendor...

1) Verizon (just for an example)

2) Research the vendor's site as to the phones and plans that they carry. Read the reviews on the phones.

3) Pick out a phone that suits your needs. Don't spend more that you have to. Try to find one with more than 16gb memory. Try to get at least 32, 64 or higher.

4) Go to the Vendor store (ie: A verizon store).

5) Buy the phone, and have a store rep set it up by transferring the stuff on your old tracfone and by using your same phone number. Numbers are transferable from carrier to carrier.

6) Make sure your contacts transfer correctly. Send a few sample texts, make some calls, etc. Play with the phone after he/she sets it up to make sure you know how to use it.

7) Don't let them sell you any extra crap for the phone. If you want a case or a screen cover, buy it on ebay.

8) OR, just get a new tracfone and ask them how to transfer over your old stuff.

EDIT: If you want to social distance as much as you can, phone the store, tell them what you want to do, give him your cc over the phone to pay for the phone. Hand him your old phone and wait outside while they do their thing. Have him hand you the new phone and play with it outside to check for problems, or watch a youtube video on how to use your new phone.

look at Consumer Cellular. You can buy any number of phones and real reasonable plans (imho) and get a small AARP discount.

Ordering the phone and the plan were easy.

Setting the fucker up was something else, entirely.

a plan. You can pick phones that come free with the plan or pay a little more for something else.

I've had them for years. Very happy.

My plan is $30 a month, including data. They use the Sprint network. They have good phones for as low as $100.

After that, you still have data, just not high speed. My payment is down to $30 because I have been with them for years. Here are their plans now:

They will have a large selection of phones and you can set up a plan (prepaid, if you want) to go with the phone.

Last time I bought a Tracfone I got a refurbished Samsung smart phone for only $25. The only thing I did not like was that it was Tracfone only so when I went to the UK I couldn't use it by buying a SIM card for the country.

If you want to change providers, this is a good time to shop around.
