(54,770 posts)my way to find them. They are better than hash browns. Only time I even think about eating grits is at a Waffle House or something. Have never cooked them at home.
They are good before a long hike if loading up on carbs. Also good for those needing folate. (Yeah, I looked all that up, having never read about grits.)

(14,855 posts)I tried them for the first time only a few years ago while in the South, and they were fine! The waitress heard my accent and offered to substitute them when I ordered breakfast, but I'm glad that I didn't do it. Certainly no worse than most other carbs imo!

(10,202 posts)My Mom was from the South, but we grew up in the Northeast and I never had grits until a trip to New Orleans when I was 17.
First time I had them, I LOVED them, and I was all like "you were holding out on me!" to my Mom when I got home. (She hated them so never cooked them.)
