They have already been eliminated from contention for next years play-offs.

(21,046 posts)even though i don't follow sports.
When I was a kid it was The Mets.
And the Washington Senators: "First in the hearts of their Countrymen, and last in the American League."

Will family with the nine boys please get your kids at the main gate? They were beating the Cubs in the third inning and management is mad!

(32,086 posts)It wasn't but a couple of years ago that the Nationals were even worse. They are now sitting at the top of their division, and have one of the second best record in the NL. It's going to take some time to clean up Jim Hendry, et al.'s clusterfuck. They did to the Cubs what Dumbya did to this country. Can't fix it overnight.

(2,675 posts)there simply are no can't-miss phenoms like Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg out there, this year or next (and probably for a while).
I will concede that it's easier to make a push at the NL Central than the NL East, especially with the potential that the Cubs have to spend money that no one else in the division can match.

(29,322 posts)Easily worst pitching staff in franchise history, worst in the league.
Their batting numbers are actually pretty good.

(10,893 posts)they're still able to get a decent amount of people to come to the games despite being so bad. I'm an A's fan (obviously), and I wish our fans filled up the seats for every game like how Cubs fans do. I guess Lew Wolff ruffled a bunch of feathers when he announced a few years ago that he wanted out of Oakland.

(19,841 posts)It is a nearly perfect venue for the only sport that matters. Some fans will even tell you that the best part of a day at Wrigley often happens before the ump shouts 'play ball,' before the players take the field and before the first real pitch is thrown. It's when the organ is playing and kids are running down toward the dugout to get autographs. It's when they're taking batting practice and everyone on the team is knocking a few out. The park smells of hotdogs and the hotdogs smell like the park. Old Style tastes like champagne and for just a little while the world seems... about right.
