Vanity movies/roles: off on the wrong foot when dialog is like this

In "The Tourist," Johnny DEPP to Angelina, in a husky-musky voice: "There is nobody less down to earth as you."

In "Burlesque," whoever to whassername Cristina AGUILERA: (something like) "There is nobody more talented, can sing like you, so beautiful, so real, beautiful INSIDE as well as outside."

O.K., that "beautiful INSIDE" part was really in the pic!1

Now, this happens with mega-stars, somewhat excusably: It all looked for real for STREISAND in Funny Girl, but Funny Lady was too much by half. And in Burlesque, Cher looked and acted like Kat Von D in LA Ink, but when she sang (something like) "You haven't seen the last of me," it sounded real. (This was stuff that was on yesterday.)

Now, to get myself in Dutch, as usual, there have been a couple of threads lauding David LEAN's Summertime, with Teh Katherine HEPBURN. Sorry, have never stomached her, and she lived down to my expectations in that, too, where, despite the intro by Robert OSBOURNE and Drew BARRYMORE that said she was at her most vulnerable, she was her usual precious self for my ticket, and it was another vanity post. As for the flick's being really about the visuals of Venice, eh all right. Those WERE fireworks when Miss Katherine supposedly got off?!1

I think the worst line ever was, "OH Mr. GREENfield." HopeHoops Jul 2012 #1
