The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSurvey time for those DUers of the female persuasion: For what do you save your money?
Burger King has this Family Feud contest thing going on. They have the top three responses to a question they "asked" and you have to pick the #1 answer.
So tonight's question is this: Name the one thing for which women save their money.
A. Clothes/shoes
B. Vacation Time
C. Jewelry
So I ask you, the DUers who happen to be women, which of the three do you save your money?
If we get the correct one, I promise to split the small fries or small milkshake!

(31,525 posts)I will spend money on clothes and jewelry when the mood strikes me and I have a little extra cash, but I will actively save money for a vacation.

I'm disgusted that those are the top three responses.

(31,525 posts)or we get together for a family camping trip or something similar. Vacation, to me, doesn't mean just travel.
I will admit, though, that choices A and C are pretty superficial.

(24,146 posts)and i'm not talking expensive ones. i'm talking about a trip to the thrift store for my husband and i.

(28,394 posts)They must think that women are still working for "pin money" instead of supporting themselves or their families.

(109 posts)Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy all those things (well not so much shoes, my feet are pretty large, and shoes are annoying!), but they are not a thought when I think of what I need to spend money on. I have 3 kids, so right now that's what I always look to. Hopefully when I get older it goes to other things, but I can't see any of those choices (ok, MAYBE vacation, but really......eh).
And I certainly don't spend my money in BK.

(48,217 posts)One of my great frustrations between 2007 and 2011 was not having the money to travel. I barely made it more than 20 miles from Minneapolis. Since then, I've been to Scandinavia, Cuba, and Japan.

(2,015 posts)so even though I would like to spend money on clothes and shoes, especially shoes ... I love shoes, I make due with what I have. I do save what money I can to take a "sisters trip" every year with my sisters though so I guess it's vacation for me.
The things I really need to save money for, shots for the cats and a decent chair weren't amongst the choices so I guess I'll stick with vacation.

(30,947 posts)I am living on social security. So, since I am not working, I do not need new clothes or shoes. I already have 3 closets full of clothes and shoes. My savings account is mainly for emergencies.

(28,942 posts)Retired and done enough travel. I'm content now stay in my area code.
Certainly not jewelry, as I barely wear what I have. And, I detest clothes and shoe shopping. Vacation usually amounted to going to visit family---when I had a job that had vacation.

If it's other women, I would say shoes and clothing. Judging by what I know of my friends, I mean.

(46,179 posts)I save my money to make electrical and plumbing and roof and flooring and window and barn repairs; for yearly hay and firewood costs; for needed auto maintenance and parts; and to be able to afford deductibles and copays someday for needed medical care.
If I could fund all of that, I'd save money for retirement.
If retirement was also funded, THEN I'd save for vacation time.

(12,673 posts)I buy clothes and shoes for to cover my nekkidness, for safety and health, and not be arrested or lose my job because I can't meet a dress code. And yes, I have to save to replace the ones I have when they get too ratty or worn.
But most times, I try to save for a "rainy day" - emergencies. Unfortunately, it seems to be "raining" almost every day, so the ability to save is not usually attainable, it's more of deciding what you spend on every paycheck and pray you don't go in the hole.

Before everyone gets worked into a tizzy...his money was OUR money, but it just didn't feel right using money he worked for to buy his gift, IMO.

(109 posts)however, if I went by the women I know, most would choose A sadly. At least with vacation one MAY be expanding their world, but the women I know tend to frequent Sandals resorts.
