In 1990, I went from perfectly ordered Germany and Switzerland (places where the trains pull into the station exactly as the second hand gets to 12 on the clock) over the Brenner pass into Italy. A country totally built on id, passion, no impulse control, all heart. People would drop everything, walk away from their jobs just to see the end of a soccer game. The trains did run pretty well, unless the workers went on strike or got distracted, or needed to finish the Aria they were singing. And you'll get your food when it's perfectly done, not because someone's on the clock.

So if the art, the music, the cuisine, the beauty is all built on a culture so loose and out of control: I say Bring on the Chaos!

WAY too much going on for my taste. I did not find it relaxing or vacation-like at all. I did think the guys handing out the hooker "baseball cards" were a hoot, however...

I don't know how ANYthing comes out of there right! I walked down a major aisle one day, and on the FLOOR to one side of the aisle was a small pice of paper. I stepped over to it, picked it up, turned it over and looked at it--it was a check for a little over a MILLION dollars! that someone had written to the IRS for payment of their taxes. How does anybody lose a million-dollar check on the floor??
