Go to Google Maps, look for St. Maries, ID, and follow Highway 3 south of town. At some point you will find a location labeled "Spooner Tuner." About three-quarters of a mile past that you will find a blue house with a front porch.

In the 1970s, there was a sofa on that front porch.

One fine day the homeowner came back from work and there was a medium-size buck deer on the sofa, just sitting there. The guy figured, if I get up on the porch the deer will leave. It did not.

Over the next three years, the deer would go to the forest, eat and go back to the porch. He never said whether he dared to pet the deer - a deer will seriously screw you up if you piss it off - but it was essentially his pet deer. LOTS of people would drive down Highway 3 to see it. It was an even bigger tourist attraction than Truman Spooner's round barn.

Well...one day the guy came home from work and the only thing on the porch was deer guts. Some asshole had shot the deer from the highway, trespassed onto his land, field dressed it and left all the parts he didn't want to take home with him to clean up.
