He appeared at Bumbershoot, Seattle's Labor Day festival. The crowd was so huge I was afraid we wouldn't get in, but we did. I knew I'd enjoy him and probably do some of that delicious cringing that pushing the boundaries always brings, but I wasn't quite prepared for how vibrant, smart and warm he was. He has a sweetness and a love of life about him that made his monologue and Q&A not only funny and edgy, but really made you wonder why bother to be uptight about what people do or love or laugh about. His genuine delight and love for people he's worked with was palpable. At the same time, he made me wonder how brave I can be about talking and laughing about some very un-PC ideas.

(41,990 posts)while still trying to maintain a certain teenaged "I'm realy a cool rapperesque dude" persona. Apparently Waters handed him an eyebrow pencil and said "You can have one of your very own!" and he did indeed draw one on his lip. I didn't give the Beibs credit for being that smart, but if it's true it was a wise move because Waters obviously was charmed.
But as I said, he seems to just plain like people.
