(35,445 posts)Maybe because I was just a kid, but women from the 1970s had that very sexy vibe to them that I have not seen since.
to me, they seemed girl-next-door sexy.
Not like today, what with "sexy" being defined as the likes of Snooki, etc. Trashy, you know?

(35,445 posts)Watch re-runs of the Mary Tyler Moore show, and you will see a show about a single woman navigating her career. She wasn't obsessed with getting married and finding a husband. She was living her life.
Today, TV and movies depict women as being obsessed with finding a husband.

Shows like "The Bachelor" or whatever it is where the women all compete to get the guy.
I don't watch it but know plenty of people who do.
How did our society manage to devolve like that, I wonder...
sad.

(35,445 posts)Career women were demonized in the movies. See "Fatal Attraction", "Working Girl", and "Baby Boom". Career women were seen as cold-hearted and lacking.
Starting in the 90s and continuing into the millenium, romantic comedies all became about getting married. The message was clear: you cannot find fulfillment as a woman until you are married, no matter how well the other parts of your life are doing. Marriage is the single biggest reason for your existence on planet Earth.
Again, this was in total contrast to what 70s women were all about. They were about freedom and independence, building your own career, and having fun being single.

She seemed withdrawn and pensive and regretful about her last night at M.A.S.H., but
that last-minute tiniest of smiles on her face as her helicopter lifted off spoke volumes.
