My Border Collie - Heeler dispatched a roof rat so swiftly I barely had time to see her grab it by the scruff of its neck, shake it, and drop it in the dirt.

The squirrel died fairly quickly. Question, Should I have let Dexie eat it?

I think this picture was taken at the moment of death, while he was furiously shaking it. Once he started eating it there was no stopping him.

I did email my vet about it and he said no problem, dogs are quite capable of digesting fur, bones, etc - they've been doing it for thousands of years.

Its instinctive behavior, even though we rarely see it in our highly domesticated pets.
