The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsTell me if you can't see the stress on Kristen Stewart's face.
Though she might be on the road to recovery, her face is thin and drawn like someone who is close to anorexia.
I hope this thing just blows over soon, before she does herself too much damage.

(13,661 posts)What happened is between her and her former boyfriend. People make mistakes. If the "wronged" party chooses to forgive, or not, it should be private.
And anyway, I always thought part of being liberal was a healthy dose of compassion for those who f*ck up, and actually apologize.

(24,634 posts)They were engaged. Marriage is a technicality or just a piece of paper. For all intents and purposes she was in a very committed relationship. But I can see the problem with her cheating, especially with a married man. This is not to say that the man is innocent. He is also in his own deserved hell. What with him probably losing his wife and child. However she bares the responsibility in ruining his relationship as she does in ruining her own; as he shares the blame for ruining his relationship and her own.
Yeah she can make mistakes but she has to realize is under a public microscope and thermostat. You fuck up in some way that people object too, you can see a death of your public career---sure she might recover from this and she might not. Public opinion is pretty hard on cheaters. Look at Meg Ryan.

(46,703 posts)We will never really know what was going on between the two of them. But what I have read about Kristen Stewart, she had a lot of growing up to do. I'm sure this experience will do her good in the end, as a person. Twenty-two years old. Unbelievable that you would condemn someone who is 22 and has lived under a microscope for most of her puberty.
Never expected to see someone promoting the Scarlet Letter on a progressive website, but you have your right to your opinion.

(1,675 posts)I have been shocked at the viciousness of some of the people here. THey have not been in the Lounge for the most part that I have seen. Up until recently, I was thinking of encouraging my 17 year old daughter to join DU because she is a very passionate and progressive young lady but I don't think its a good idea now. I can take the nastiness but she is a 17 year old with Aspergers and...well.. I am her mother and first of all, if she got blasted for making the mistake of having the wrong opinion about something or saying something the wrong way, which is incredibly easy to do, I would probably get myself banned with how I would respond to that person! LOL! I am amazed at how intolerant people on a progressive website can be. But I am glad that is the exception to the rule. I have been going through one hell of a tough time lately and the people at DU have really been there for me, and I am very grateful for that.
Peace!

(20,219 posts)and over the mistake of a child, too....
I don't know who she is, and I don't tend to stop by the Lounge, so forgive me for jumping in (basically, I always forget that the Lounge is here! ) but I'm with Baitball: she's just a little girl learning a hard lesson. She cheated with a married man? How many mistakes did we all make when we were in our teens? How easy is it for an older man --an authority figure-- to manipulate a young girl's emotions and sexuality?
When I see pain in someone's face, I don't react by slavering to pull on my jackboots and kick them some more. But I guess some people feel differently.

(46,703 posts)I have seen some who have come on and do extremely well, but, you're absolutely right. Especially a young person who is trying to find where they fit in, this is not the place to start looking for yourself. You have to land on your feet every time, and if you have a low post count you'll certainly catch the attention of a troll hunter. I would suggest we have a DU teen room, but God knows who would show up, who isn't a teen, pretending to be. Hmm... we might be onto something.

(1,675 posts)because we need to encourage our kids and there are a lot of incredibly smart and informed people on DU and I believe a lot of heavy hitters in politics too. It would be a great place for them to learn and meet others like them in a setting that was clearly for them BUT it would HAVE to be heavily moderated. I mean these kids who are on line every day face the possibility of someone misrepresenting their identity all the time, that is why they have had to learn how to be safe and not give out their information. I think the civility rules would have to be tighter to avoid cyber bullying. And if adults were talking to the kids they would have to keep in mind they are talking to kids and be much more tolerant. All in all it would probably be a full time job on its own and probably why we don't have one! But who knows? I would be willing to help out with it.

(24,634 posts)Where in my post am I condemning her? They were both in relationships were they not? They both cheated against their SO's. Since we're talking specifically of her....she did something wrong. I don't see how you relate the truth to anything Scarlet Letter-ish. Dramatic much?!

(46,703 posts)If I hadn't been a mother at the time of the Twilight era, I wouldn't know who she was either. But I've learned something about being an empty nester. You can't turn off the maternal instinct. I'm to the point where I'm out feeding every creature in the backyard, and even add some extra food if the rabbits look too skinny.
So, of course, I'm concerned about a kid who made a terrible, terrible, mistake, but is too young for the world to put an end to her happy ending, whatever it might be.

(46,703 posts)There have been five movies, with the last one coming up in November. About six weeks ago she was caught by a pap parking with her director. They were clothed but it was all high school smooching and grinding. He's 41, she's 22 in a relationship with the actor who plays her vampire lover in the movie. They had just moved into a six million dollar house in September of last year.
When the pictures came out, she made a public apology and her boyfriend left the house and one of his friends called her to ask her to leave. She's worth about 60 million, so, it's not like she's homeless. But, she's 22. What can you say? From all the gossip, they haven't reunited, though they're talking through cellphone.
The big mystery is if they'll get back at least to run the red carpet for Breaking Dawn Part 2, which is the last movie of the series.
Last night was the first time she came out for a scheduled public appearance. Which is why the physical change is noticeable. She wasn't with her Breaking Dawn cast who were at the MTV awards. (That's were her ex-boyfriend was appearing) She was at the Toledo film festival promoting her On the Road movie. And here's some more inside info. Two of the male actors in that movie were close friends of her ex. One of them is missing from the photos, and the other one doesn't look happy to be photographed next to her.

(1,675 posts)I look at all of these kids who have been given too much money, too much freedom and too much fame at such a young age. I am often shocked at the lack of compassion people sometimes have for these kids.
Kristen Stewart is a kid . How many of us remember what our judgment was like at 22? She isn't on par with Newt Gingrich who cheated on and left TWO women who were sick. She is a young girl who probably shouldn't have been in such a serious relationship at this point anyway. How long has she been with this boyfriend, since she was 18? 17?
These kids are surrounded by yes men, and people who allow them to get lost in the publicity and money and fantasy. Now this young girl has to face so many people in the world who have such venom and hatred against her. I am sure she has "whore" shouted at her because this world is a horrible cruel place and people think that a celebrity is someone they have a right to say or do anything to, or to follow and photograph.
There is a shocking lack of kindness in the world right now toward our fellow man.
Kristen Stewart looks horrid in that picture and as a mother of two teenage girls I think its too bad and I am sad that she doesn't seem to have people caring for her and helping her through this.
We all have done things we aren't proud of, at least I know I have. Only we have the luxury of not having to do it in the public spotlight.
I am also waiting to hear of Lindsay Lohan being found dead somewhere or dying in a car wreck. She is another example of a young girl run amok and tragedy is coming.
Peace to all

(46,703 posts)Speaking of Lohan, I haven't figured out what to make of this:
Lindsay Lohan Asks President Obama for Tax Cuts
The actress jumped into the political fray late Thursday, tweeting her thoughts about taxation at Obama.
Obamas Twitter account had posted the following quote from his address at the DNC: Ive cut taxes for those who need it: middle-class families, small businesses.
Lohan replies, @BarackObama we also need to cut them for those that are listed on Forbes as millionaires if they are not, you must consider that as well.
snip
Its not entirely clear whether Lohan was literally and very specifically advocating for tax cuts for individuals who have erroneously landed on the Forbes wealth list, or if the actress was making a broader point.

(20,277 posts)Her hair and makeup aren't flattering at all. The lighting looks harsh too.
People might be hard on her because she cheated with a married man. So she not only ruined her relationship, she also messed up a marriage.

(1,675 posts)Even if both people were of the same age, it takes two to ruin a marriage.
What was up with him that he, a married man with children in his 40's would not recognize that this was a VERY young girl.
I am not saying that she is blameless but she seems to be having it all heaped on her.
