I'm trying to find Mascara, my problem is that I like plain brown mascara. I'm a blonde with fair skin and blonde eyebrows, black mascara looks fake on me. Only problem - finding plain brown mascara THAT is also waterproof (I tear alot, need the waterproofing).
I mean how do you tell the difference between all these shades of black - black, blackest black, ebon black, glam black, glamourous black, dramatic black, etc. etc. etc.
I mean black is black.
Come on mascara companies put out more browns!! And no, Black-Brown does not count!

(15 posts)Most women are brunette, so it'd be my guess that black is the biggest seller.
Browns are out there. I've seen browns at Walgreens, Target, and of course Ulta. I have found, though, that it matters what brand you're looking at. Cover Girl seems to focus more on lighter complexion/haired women, while Maybelline focuses more on brownettes/brunettes.

(30,947 posts)But I do use black mascara on my bottom lashes. Brown just not work because I have to do too many layers and it is a bitch to get off at night.

(3,414 posts)but occasionally I can find the Max Factor Mascara in Auburn, and that is what I usually wear. It makes my eyes look bluer!

(13,661 posts)Available at Target, I believe. $21. Here's the link: http://www.lavera.com/products/Volume_Mascara_Brown-984-1000024.html
$21 is pricey, but I recently used an Estee Lauder mascara that my sister sent me and when it ran out, I tried a drug store brand and the difference in how my lashes felt (soft with EL, vs. crinkly and awful) was huge.
I was never a believer in more expensive mascara until recently.
But I will not be going back to Estee Lauder because they've started testing on animals again (apparently it's required if you want to sell products in China, so they're being profit-whores and animal testing again).
Unfortunately, the product MFM suggested, while it gets rave reviews, also is by a company (BeneFit) that tests on animals.
Physician's Formula doesn't, but they only have brown-black, from what I can tell.
If it interests you, here's PETA's list of companies that don't test: http://www.mediapeta.com/peta/PDF/companiesdonttest.pdf
Whatever you think of PETA and their tactics, this is an excellent list if animal testing is an issue that concerns you.
