In 2022, more than half of American households were childless: 29% were married households without children
So why aren't more stores selling half loaves of bread???? ha ha
This is my big crusade! I live alone and there is only one grocery store that I have to drive over 20 miles each way to get to for my half loaf.
Come on--get with the demographics!

(9,988 posts)I regularly freeze bread because a full loaf turns into rocks before I can eat it!

(576 posts)That's part of the problem--I don't like bread after it's been frozen. I demand my nice, fresh, half loaf!
And stores are so dumb. When there's a coupon it's like "buy one loaf and get one free!" The same for eggs. Well, single households can't go through all that bread and eggs.
I freeze almost everything! Still eating my birthday cake!

(576 posts)My friend lived off the grid. So, his frig. ran only when he turned on the generator. I bought a small mayo for him and the price was outrageous compared to the big jar. Did you ever notice that? Clear discrimination against we single households.

(36,434 posts)I can purchase them individually, but I usually get three or four at a time because they work so well in so many ways

(16,959 posts)a loaf every 10 days or so. I use it mainly for toast, so it stays fresh enough. If I don't get through it quick enough, I use the ends for bread pudding and a couple other recipes.
I stopped buying store and bakery bread, mainly because I threw away so much. I recently noticed that our local IGA sells small loaves. I don't get there often, but I got a marble rye, and it didn't go to waste
