I've heard they had 137 children, all of whom were 9ft tall and lifespans measured in hundreds of years.

They had pristine DNA. They interbred.

Over the many generations, mutations made the DNA less perfect. That's why we're 5ft tall and live 80 years.

(I can't remember whether Methuselah, famous for having lived longest at more than 900 yrs, was a child or grandchild of Adam and Eve.)

I learned all of this during a single drive from New York to North Carolina. For huge stretches of the journey, Christian radio was the only thing on the air waves.

I gained 137 reasons to remain an atheist.

...that those ridiculous ages were likely a misinterpretation of the oral record, and that months became years.
I don't know if that's accurate, but it us more logical than someone living 960 years.

the same as a year for us.

It was probably one of the more sensible things I heard about Jewish mythology.

Of course, I believe none of it.

>> more logical than someone living 960 years.

That's a generous statement.

One has to believe that Adam, Methuselah, Noah, and the others were actually real before discussing such numbers.

(The Christian Scientist on the radio also said they were 9ft tall.)

I am comfortable in my atheism.

Cheers, Professor.

So because god has one. Why? No idea. Those questions get you kicked out of bible class.
