I may have to do the same very soon. I don't know if it is practical for me to work, or if I can.

I owe my boss that much, though, he has been kind. If I must leave, I will help with the transition any way I can.

scary... my partner wants to retire and we work as a team, so I must quit... he is insisting that I plan for and fulfill my lifelong dream of thru hiking the Appalachian Trail starting next March... methinks he wants to sit and read for days without my talking at him...

I wish I knew some wonderful person (needing a job) that would love a 351 day/year job which offers lots of sightseeing

be flexible, smart, able to meet deadlines, write neatly, etc...

From the OP it sounded like the situation fit the rather disturbing trend like what Bain did with various companies. From posts #2 and #12, it's obviously a much different situation.

Grovelbot is unemployed, so probably disqualified.

Or maybe it just seems that way.

so I'm glad WE didn't get such a notice!

Have you recovered from the convention yet?

I hope you are going to take some time off and enjoy life, and don't worry, lots of job seekers out there.

I am recovered from the Convention and now trying to get ready for my FIRST 5k on my birthday in October (my 60th ) I will still be working until the middle of December and then a wonderful Vermont Winter shoveling snow and dreaming of my hike...

I just got back from looking at supplies in my preparation to do a thru hike on the A.T. ...so I will hang out at DU until March 16th (2013) when I plan on flying down to Atlanta, GA, take a shuttle to the starting point of the Appalachian Trail and then spend the next 5 months in pure bliss (when I'm not freezing, or sore, or dog tired, or...) until I get to the other end at Katahdin Mountain, Maine...

lots of job seekers out there and I have always said I have the perfect job -for someone! ....on the road 24/7, 365 days a year!!!

I did some census work for 2010 and I loved getting out and about and seeing new places.

But, alas, with critters it's hard...

Let me know when you're closer to hike time. That's the day after my birthay ( born on the Ides haha ) Maybe we could have a little meetup as you'll be in my crazy neck of the woods.

My cuz wants to do the AT as well, but again with the critters....

And a 5K? Holey Moley! Good for you. We truly are as young as we feel. Today I feel about 80 and crickety, tomorrow I might feel 14.

I've hiked some of it out of Springer mountain - maybe 10 miles of it - but that was the limit for me at the time.

Let me know when you get closer, we'll figure out a good place to meetup and hike. I LOVE to hike. And good luck with that 5K!

And remember: Absorbine Junior was my Granny's cure-all for everything sore!

Unless they treated you very badly, it can be in your interest to amiably part by making replacement recommendations.

No one is irreplaceable.

Good on you for having a good relationship with your soon to be former employer.

And good luck with whatever you're moving on to.
