I bought a pair of these in 1969 when I worked for Kinney Shoes. Unfortunately the box is long gone but the sneaks are in nearly pristine condition.

(95,337 posts)Something she probably got from the sears catalog. I don't wear it (too small) but I have it in my cedar chest. I also have 2 of my dad's favorite sweaters and one of his favorite shirts - probably from the late 70s.
Oldest that i bought for myself? I still have the purple shirt I wore for my high school class photo. I got it from the Limited and it's a gorgeous shirt (mom paid alot for it but she also thought it looked great on me). I don't fit in it now but if I could i'd still wear it - it's that nice of a blouse. About 3 years later a friend gave me a wool skirt that looked amazing with it (purple and green houndstooth). I still have that too.
I also have a pair of 15 year old Dr Martens that I still wear today. I need to find a shine kit for it.

(39,961 posts)All you need to shine them is some good old shoe polish. Mine still look good as new. Steel-toe, ten hole beauties
And I also have a set of gorgeous 16" cowboy boots in an 8A (which is an impossible size to find) that feel like slippers that are also nearly as old.
I PRIZE shoes and boots that fit well.
EDIT: Here's a pic:

(3,867 posts)I wear them still. I was -9 in 1974. One of them was made by Levi's, that has to be rare.

(2,959 posts)They're oxfords, very nice & "dressy". His feet and my feet were very similar. They didn't fit any of the other men in our family so he gave them to me. I used to wear them to work. Now days they're my weddings & funeral shoes.
I also have a great grandfather's diamond stick pin. Its not exactly a garment but he wore it in his cravat. It was made sometime in the 1870's. It's in a safe deposit box. I've worn it once.

(47,675 posts)I don't fit into my high school jeans anymore (29" waist), but I fit into my 30" jeans again now.
My wife wears the 27" and 28" jeans (big on her) and she's made some nice shorts out of them. She also wears tank tops. I like having a fox for a wife.

(792 posts)I am still trying to clean them up for sale. Though they have never been worn and are still in their original boxes, water got to them at some point and made them smell kinda mildewy. Most are rubber so they can and will be cleaned.

Those shoes are really cool, a work of art! If you had the box, they would probably be worth a bundle on eBay!
Majorette boots! The kind that had the big pom poms on the front?
The prom gowns were kind of poufy in '65, weren't they? I remember the neighbor girls' gowns.
I have my prom gown from the 70's. It kind of looks like a tablecloth!
femmocrat
(28,394 posts)I designed and made my prom gown. It was a shiny gold lame fabric, not poufy. V-neck, long and straight. I had brief delusions of becoming a fashion designer.

I also have a prom dress I wore sometime in the early 60's. My granddaughter wanted to wear it to her 8th grade dance so we got it out, took it to the cleaners and she wore it -- looked lovely on her and it tickled the hell out of me that she wanted to wear it!

(15,774 posts)I tee-shirt from a pledge drive. The public TV station was less than a year old and they were introducing a new british comedy series...the Monty Python show. It is thin and worn, blue with brown writing and says 'Monty Python is a twit' in a word balloon. The man saying that is the classic Georgian dressed English gentleman. Classic 1978-79. I say had because I gave it to my daughter who appreciates vintage tees and begged me for it. Never thought to sell it on e-bay. Also have some vintage WWII women's clothing. The dress tailoring is exquisite sailor style dress. I save and gift the really nice pieces to folks that can use and appreciate it.

(9,902 posts)We have other items of his too - his dog tag - made from a gold coin - I was told that tinkers would follow the troops and make these tags, his wife's hair ring (that's kind of odd) it's a gold ring, and on the inside is her hair and you can see the hair through the design in the ring. He lost his leg in the war, and my Great Grandmother and her sister would play with his "spare" legs.
and this is my GGG Grandfather - we also have his discharge papers, and all sorts of memorabilia
Beacool
(30,250 posts)Regarding the hair ring, in Victorian times it was common to incorporate the hair of loved ones in jewelry and even embroidered samplers (the type that you hang like a picture). The Victorians had a morbid relationship with death, probably due to the high mortality of children.
Here's a site that's about hair jewelry. There's even a ring there.

(1,110 posts)Is a cardigan sweater that I got for Christmas in 1962. I still have it because I took it to work in 1968 to keep in my desk. It remained my "It's cold in the office sweater" until I retired in 2003, when it came home in a box with my other personal items.
It is in good condition because I never wore it much, and there were no moths at work!

I reported to the desk I'd lost it in the pool and about a month later, the hotel sent it to me when they cleaned the pool filter.
