Okay Lounge. I found you a new hero.

Entrepreneur converts old fridges into beer 'pub-hubs'

Refurbishing full-sized refrigerators and equipping them with kegs and taps, Orlando entrepreneur David Brunson is taking the hassle out of providing draft beer at parties.

After working out of a warehouse, Brunson has now opened a storefront in Orlando. At Taps From Scratch on Winter Park Road, customers can check out his "pub-hubs" before renting or buying them. Taps from Scratch also has sampling events, and beer enthusiasts can join a club providing them access to brewing equipment.

Brunson said renting one of the overhauled refrigerators is neater, classier and easier than setting up a traditional keg.

"We're trying to educate people that you can have a nicer party," Brunson said.

My son built one of those years ago. It wasn't as nice but only because we didn't care - we just wanted cold beer on tap on his back porch. He used my old fridge after we got a new one.

If id'a knowed we could make money.....

but the keg is not cold on it's own. That's where kegerators come in - they are just working refrigerators that you can put your keg in and the tap line runs outside so you can get the beer into your glass without opening up the fridge.

We drilled a hole in the side of ours to run the line through so we could just open up the front and roll out the empty and throw in the new one.

On ours, the freezer still worked too so we kept vodka and ice in there.

We could have taken our time and designed it more elegantly but the decor on the back porch was not anything hard to match - a plain white fridge fits in any neighborhood - and the functionality was simply cold beer got into our glasses.

I'm not sure how long a keg of beer stays fresh. We never let one go that long.

... about the time his kids were hitting "that" age. It was a fun device.
