The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI saw the movie "Looper" tonight.
Needed some downtime and not think about anything much (long day at work) so I went with a friend to see the action sci-fi film "Looper" and it was pretty good. Any Loungers see it yet? I recommend it, although it's not a genre I usually watch.

Anything with Joseph Gordon-Levitt tends to have something about them.
I've liked other time traveling flicks better, but this one was ok.
Some reason or another, I liked Premium Rush better. Which is another movie with the same actor in it.

(25,348 posts)...that didn't quite get the golden ring.
Perhaps it's just me and I'm getting jaded 'cause in the past year or so it seems like I've watched a lot of "Almost" great films. ????

(19,374 posts)Time travel plots always have gaping holes, but it was good enough to suspend disbelief and have fun. Willis is one of the most one diminsional actors out there, but he's very good at that dimension and he worked Looper with all he's got. I give it four stars.

(34,108 posts)the "surprise" ending (what Young Joe does to himself) is supposed to mean that the little kid Sid will grow up NOT having witnessed his mom shot before his eyes, thus leaving us with the impression that he doesn't grow up to be the Evil Guy Rainmaker later. Is that how you figured it?

(19,374 posts)There's the rub with time travel plots though. Once you start messing wis past events. how can you possibly know you'll get the desired outcome?
That's where belief suspension comes in handy.

(15,740 posts)Kind of a morality play, but thumbs up for me.
Had no idea that was coming. Sort off figured out the rest in the middle however and I hate that.

(38,316 posts)This one did.
The mildly dystopian future is very well thought out. The movie is not about the dystopia, it's entirely about the characters and that's why it works.
The violence gives it an "R" on my personal movie rating scale, which is nothing like the scale the MPAA uses. I'd give "Hunger Games" an "R" too...
This movie rates higher than Hunger Games on my score card.
