the producer wants to make it and is willing to lose money on it again. Likewise, I know a few people in cast/crew and most of them are hardcore Randian objectivists that are working for below-rate in order to make that project. There's a lot of "closet" RWers in the NYC film industry...I assume that's true of a lot of regional film industries...I mean there is a lot of money going around and some people once rich are always prone to become selfish.

Reefer Madness was made by The Government...the same people who brought you Army training films.(Having said that, there is one on YouTube that's just fine. It revolves around this sad sack who won't perform personal hygiene but does play folk songs on his guitar, so the rest of the platoon forms a folk band who sings songs about brushing teeth and washing ass.)

Atlas Shrugged was made by pros but had lower production values than any military training film. Go to YouTube and search for "spatial disorientation." There is an Air Force film on it that is much better produced than that objectivist crap people paid to see.

Midnight shows on college capuses, audience members dressing up like the characters in the movie, shouting out all the lines beforehand. Oh god, I think I've given myself a headache.

Same but for TeaHadists:

Galt and Dolt!

Little situational morality lessons.

John Dolt buys food for the food bank to help others...John Galt keeps his money so it will motivate the hungry to work harder and produce!

The moochers, the takers, the non-productive worms who make up society do not deserve to see this movie. I alone validate it with eyes, my ears, my time, my butter-drenched finger tips.

At least I think that's butter. The plan had been for it to be a trilogy. I think they might wrap it up in ep 2.

so he is either in on the joke, or is even dumber and less self-reflective than your average Randroid.

More likely, he's at that level of celebrity where he can find reasonably steady work, but not such that he can be especially choosy about it.

(For you non videogame-playing folks, Bioshock was a game that was set in a failed underwater Randian utopia, and Andrew Ryan was the tycoon that founded it. Both the game and the characterization totally deconstructs and rejects Rand's philosophy.)

I hope Samantha Mathis is thinking of getting out of acting, because this one is a career ender.

ON EDIT: I just wonder sometimes when an actor gets short on roles, what makes them just take a role this ill advised, almost guaranteeing they'll never be taken seriously again...

ON EDIT 2: If you really want to see a bunch of cementheads in action, check out the user reviews on IMDB. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1985017/reviews

Warning: You eyes might roll so hard, you might need medical assistance to unstick them.

I don't think it matters HOW bad a right-wing movie is, Randians will think it's just great. They probably thought "An American Carol," "2016" and "Won't Back Down" were just great too.

Yeah, they probably went, forgave all the nonsense, carefully forgot the $20 they spent being a complete waste (irony there, kind of proving they're more like the looters and sheep than the capitalists) and ran off to IMDB hoping anyone with a brain forgets what a propaganda piece any movie featuring a Rand vehicle must incipiently be. Kind of like a Battlefield Earth for the Rand faithful.

Bored on my day off. Wasn't in the mood to see Argo (though planning to go see that next week) and wanted to check it out. Francisco came off as a total prick at the wedding, giving his "Money is not the root of evil speech (which was 30 minutes long in the book) and I'm glad James stopped him before he got too far into it.
Also there is a scene in the beginning with a couple of jets flying through mountains, as Dagney is chasing Galt's plane as it's headed to Gault's Gulch. The way these planes move was very unrealistic, as far as my untrained eyes could tell.
And I'm really not trying to nitpick. Those things just jumped out at me.
The rest of the move wasn't bad. There were some funny moments, like Sean Hannity showing up as Sean Hannity doing his show. And saying "is that Teller playing Laughlin?" (it was). And Diedrich Bader (the guy that played Jethro in the new-ish Beverly Hillbillies movie) playing a super smart scientist. I remember shrugging (HA!) and saying "At least he's playing against type. Good for him." But I think adding Hannity to the movie is going to give it the shelf life of a banana.
