(21,551 posts)The fresh air will help. If it is closed shut, then anaerobic bacteria may be encouraged to grow and they smell worse.

(6,011 posts)Did you remove the grill at the bottom and see if there is a condensation-collecting tray that can be slid out and washed?
Some suggest charcoal (even briquets, but not the instant match lighter kind) works much better than baking soda.
The last reply on this sounds good- maybe you needed to let the bleach solution sit longer on the surfaces.

(4,833 posts)wide and shallow, like a pie pan or shallow salad or soup bowl. Now that the refrigerator is clean, put this in the bottom.
You have to leave the door(s) open, or you will wretch for sure.

(6,793 posts)Of charcoal (WITHOUT ADDED LIGHTER FLUID) cut one side open and lay it in the bottom of the fridge on its side. Be sure and cut the up side completely open. Plug up fridge and let run on lowest settings to circulate the air thru the charcoal.....this way you can keep it shut also. This works.....I had an upright freezer trip a breaker and go bad while on vacation....after scrubbing with bleach and baking soda....the charcoal bag did wonders.

(26,117 posts)We had an icebox in our camper, and she would put coffee grounds in a shaker bottle with the lid off (like a cinnamon bottle). The coffee grounds would absorb some of the smell, and provide a pleasant smell of their own. I'm sure any open container would work - but the shaker bottle would prevent spilling.

(1,581 posts)We have 2 freezers and use one for only part of the year. The rest of the year I put coffee grounds in a pie tin and place that in the freezer. When we open it to use again you only have the smell of coffee. Of course, you clean and dry the fridge first. It works well for us.

(50,566 posts)-Crinkle a good deal of newspaper into balls.
-Place newspaper all over your fridge and freezer so that it is completely covered.
-Spray the newspaper with water until it is completely wet.
-Allow the fridge to run as normal for five days (or, in your case, until Thurs.). During this time, the combination of evaporating water and paper will soak up the nasty smell. It should be noted that you will have to turn your freezer to the lowest setting to avoid getting frozen newspaper balls in your freezer.

"Nature's Miracle." Or "Simple Solution." Both work the same way. Not very expensive either.
