I had a dog that I had to start spelling things due to him figuring out a lot of words. And I also had one that would hide in the closet, she only did that when she did something she new she should not have done. When I fond out what it was and scolded her, she would run 3 blocks to the Sheriff Dept. They spoiled her rotten on me.

If you catch them in the act enough and scold them, they will learn to associate their behavior with being in trouble. However, if you always scold them after the act, they will never know why they are in trouble.

Our 15 month old G.S. dog has similar body language when she tries on every shoe in the house.
