I have yet to find anyone who likes it.
And here it gets blasted to pieces.

(59,305 posts)and couldn't get over how naive the main young woman was, and I couldn't wrap my head around how no new tech, or energy could occur after the event....
My Brother in law likes it, so I will probably take a stab at it when it hits dvd.

(2,104 posts)I saw the first 2 or 3 episodes and even before that had issues with how the 'event' stops everything. Seeing the show I had more issues with crap. Uncle what's his face gets pissed his niece won't let him kill a bounty hunter, so in the PA world of kill or be killed does he ratchet that shit down a notch to say breaking the guy's leg or taking a limb, hells no he locks him in a rail car, that'll keep him out of the fight. I haven't seen anything that stupid since Saving private Ryan when they let the german machine gunner go so he can come back to kill them later! It was obviously kill that guy or totally blindfold him and let him go, no stick a knife in his palms, or cut off his thumbs to prevent him from holding a weapon just cit him loose to come fight us later or kill him, no other choices. Then uncle what's his face thinks it is a great idea to leave his niece and her fairly worthless friends to meet up with him on their own, traveling in a PA world with thugs/killers/etc they should be fine w/o him there to help watch out for them.
The the main protagonist does the same FUCKING THING to her DUMBASS friends, the nerd w/o any weapon and the step mom/Doctor who I think didn't carry a weapon either besides poisoned alcohol. YEaH they'll be fine if she, the only one w/ a weapon, leaves them to chase after her uncle, brilliant!
Oh did I mention that while those three in the band of the fellowship stopped to rest in a plane that not one of them thought to take a watch! YEAH three fucking people and only one of them any good with a weapon and not one of them thought, 'oh shit somebody should stay awake while the other two losers sleep incase some freak(s) show up to kill/rob/rape/eat/or make a hat out of our skin', HELL NO that kind of thinking is for semi-intelligent writers or viewers of sci-fi!
All the while no technology save for steam power seems to be functioning unless you have a small device w/ a power source that seems to last for a decade + to nullify whatever field or wave/pulse that seems to disrupt all modern technology. Which of course ignores the issue of storing power for that time, cause we saw some batteries in an array to power up the computer that one woman had so they obviously all held power or were capable of being charged yet not working for anything unless that pendant was turned on. This of course also ignores all issues of having that single computer connecting to the other computer that must always be powered on in order to wait for her to turn her pendant on and run her PC to send a message, as well as all the computers/systems needed to bridge their connection to eachother, well unless of course they are pretty close together like a few hundred feet.
I can suspend disbelief fairly easily but you have to set the world the right way and I haven't seen anything that does that in this show so far. It seemed to start out on the laziest/stupidest foot and plod on forward like that with no thought or consideration that anything they did might be wrong.

(3,539 posts)but based on the commercials I've seen everybody now uses bows and arrows to protect themselves. Don't guns still work?

(3,980 posts)In a recent episode the rebels captured a sniper rifle and used it to hold off the milita for a while.
And the militia shot up a citizen who tried to feed himself by hunting with a rifle.

(3,980 posts)It's entertaining.
I am a fan of the Emberverse series of books by S.M. Stirling. This series has a similar premise. The two new broadcast series I do enjoy are Revolution and Last Resort.
Shrek
(3,980 posts)Some tense moments and the sub-plot with Pakistan and the SEALs is starting to go somewhere.

(29,322 posts)His character keeps me watching and his back-story and that he doesn't strike me as that bad is interesting. Not sure about the others though the guy that plays Miles is probably doing a pretty good job.
It doesn't quite have the suspense as you'd expect but it's interesting. It does strike me as a little far-fetched that everything would regress into a roided version of the wild west where there isn't even a United States. Curious as to how they'll end up explaining why there is no power and why that pendant generates it & how.

(56,828 posts)but, it's been disappointing overall.
The guy playing Miles walked in & took out like a dozen armed men by himself in the first episode. Then, he struggles in every one-on-one fight since?
The young woman playing Charlie/Charlotte is a god-awful actress. I usually can't tell how good the acting is unless it's really exceptional or really bad - and, she's really bad. Her angry/upset face makes me think of a 6 year old throwing a temper tantrum when mommy or daddy won't buy them a new toy.
interesting that we haven't seen any diesel generators - but, maybe they'll show that in a future episode? Even if they don't have diesel fuel anymore, I'm sure there are still at least a few people around that could convert one to biodiesel, no?
Shrek
(3,980 posts)The issue isn't a lack of means to generate electricity.
The problem seems to be that either electricity no longer flows for some reason, or if it does then electrical components and devices have somehow lost the ability to use it.
There hasn't been a thunderstorm yet so we don't yet know if lightning still works, and I haven't seen anybody flinch after shuffling across the floor and touching a doorknob.
