The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI was talking to a girl at a bus stop this morning...
I know her, and she had around her neck those $200 "Dr Dre" headphones.
I asked her if they are worth the $200 she paid for them.
Of course she said yes.
I tried them, I didn't notice any different from the $20 Sony headphones I use.

Ridiculous status symbol, but people still seem to fall for good marketing.

(47,675 posts)I've had two pairs where the head piece has cracked. A little duct tape and all is well.

(8,747 posts)Just alike all those $200 sneakers are "worth it".
Of course OTOH, Audiophiles (note the capitalization) are known to pay $$$$$ for "High End" Audio Cables.
Cases in point: Siltech Cables's Emperor Double Crown (Pair)
$45,000 (FORTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS) for a 2 Meter pair of Speaker Cables.
$66,000 for a 3 meter pair.

There was a time when $60 Discmans were cool.

Talk about ladling out the bullshit...

(9,230 posts)$100 will get you a pair of good quality cans IMO. Sennheiser MD280 Pro, Sony MD-7506, Sony MDR-V600, all really good quality headphones. I listened to the $200 Dr Dre's and didn't like them at all, way too much bass for me.

(21,020 posts)any kind of a "phile"...in this case, audiophiles...
they think more expensive is better, and they think they're experts enough to act all snobby snotty shitass attitude-y when they write their stinking reviews on the stuff.
Like I was looking for a relatively inexpensive yet somewhat decent pair of in-the-ear headphones for my computer and an mp.3 player.
I found some Sony MDR W08 headphones...one pair actually folds for easy carry in a travel case.
So I look at the reviews and ordinary people are writing how they like them and then I see one written by one of those fucking smartass "audiophiles" who is trashing the quality, blah blah blah.
Hello??????
So I ungraciously told him that if he wants concert-hall quality, go to a goddamned concert hall, moron...or words to that effect.
Hey, maybe my ears are burnt out from too much 60s and 70s Rock, but my Sony headphones sound fine to me.
And...nobody's gonna try to steal them.
