Shall we just give Christopher Walken the Oscar now?

"A Late Quartet", which just opened in theaters, is about a Classical string quartet that has played together for 25 years. Christopher Walken plays the cellist who announces that he must retire due to a progressive disease that is affecting his ability to play.

I haven't seen A Late Quartet and I have read only one review, (NY Times) but I hope this is the role and the performance that gains a terrific actor the recognition he deserves and his second Oscar.

on edit: To correct the title of the movie.

Please, God, don't let them make a movie about THE Bruce Dickinson.

Well that explains it. I have always loved his acting since I saw him in The Deerhunter. Cool to find out he's a darn good dancer too.

Added:

It's funny, while I was watching him dance he started out great and kept getting better and better!

This type of movie is something I usually don't seek out to watch, but I'm sure glad I did because Walken was in it:

The movie appears to be an ensemble piece so nomination in the supporting category would be more likely.

Walken is the one who would get nominated as supporting.
The Late Quartet is the ensemble piece.
I'm rooting for it because a friend of mine produced it.
But it's a ling shot.

A few years ago the so-called "Academy" invited him to their circus with the bait of presenting him with an honorary Oscar. You know that when they have a Huge Name on the bill it might help their ratings, and their *bestowing* honor on somebody burnishes their own status as The Bestower.

Well, the dear, intelligent, gracious human declined with delicious wit and charm. He said, &quot you know thankee very much) But, no, perhaps I still have time to EARN one?!1"

And, yeah, the list of those who never got one next to the list of those who did and those who got multiples is perhaps more impressive.

I have been dazzled by O'Toole since first seeing him in Lawrence of Arabia. Forget that he was a foot taller than the real Awrence (intentional, if you've seen the film), or that Marlon Brando and Albert Finney were first choices for the role. O'Toole was iconic. Mr. pig and I quote Awrence script back and forth all the time.

Amazing that he's made it to 80, considering his epic drinking and health problems. But he's outlived Burton, Harris and other contemporaries.

Love him. Saw him a couple of times onstage in London.
