For me, it's a short list-- the sequel to the '09 Star Trek reboot, and (hopefully) the remake of Soylent Green, which is supposed to come out this year. (fingers crossed) A simple man with simple tastes, that's me.
For years I've wondered why "they" bother to remake films like Carrie, Planet of the Apes, et. al. Just my opinion, of course, but I think Soylent Green will be radically improved by a 21st century makeover (and the absence of Charlton Heston).
How about y'all?

(34,138 posts)They are so funny, though the last one seemed a little tired. Maybe she needs to come up with a new premise and begin a new series.
THANK YOU! for posting the trailer - that looks fantastic. I was going to wait for it to come out on DVD but maybe I'll take hubby to the movies for his birthday.

(5,352 posts)because I read all the books as a kid--it's the first series I read in its entirety. Seeing the Japanese trailer, though, it looks as if they've added at least one thing to the original. In that trailer, hes' still a Civil War veteran, but his wife and child are killed before he heads west to become a prospector, which was NOT in the original novel. It also looks as if he gets sent to Mars via some sort of transporter beam, which deviates from the novel, as well.
Even so, the movie is review-proof as far as I'm concerned, since I'm going to go see it regardless.
After that, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Hobbit, and The Avengers, not necessarily in that order.

(719 posts)I know that they made a flick called The Avengers several years ago, with Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman, and Sean Connery. The lead characters were based on that old 60's TV series with Diana Rigg and Patrick McNee.
Is this something completely different or what?

(29,414 posts)but based on yet another superhero comic. I was never a fan of most superhero comics (other than some of the parody ones) so I don't know anything about this one.
Rob H.
(5,352 posts)It's based on the comic book superhero group of the same name. The heroes are Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, The Incredible Hulk, and Captain America. It's directed by Joss Whedon of "Buffy" and "Firefly" fame.
Yes, I'm a huge nerd.

I'm still looking forward to it as well.

(5,352 posts)In the books, John Carter never had a wife or child on Earth. There's a line in the trailer where he's talking to Dejah Thoris and says, "I was too late once; I won't be again" and he's obviously referring to their deaths (the Japanese trailer shows him by their graves, which he appears to have dug himself). It makes me cringe since it seems as if they're ripping off The Outlaw Josey Wales with that bit.

(878 posts)Just wish I posted it first. Seen the trailer on You Tube.
I LOVE how the dwarves turned out.
Aristus
(66,467 posts)Thorin, Fili, and Kili are all aristocrats. Several of the rest are middle class. And three or four of them are obviously working class dwarves.
My only problem with several of the dwarves is their relative good looks. Some fans at TheOneRing.net are calling them "hot dwarves".
Tolkien went out of his way to describe the dwarves as an 'unlovely' race, and drew a contrast between their ugliness (even their women have beards), and the beautiful crafts produced by their masons, metalworkers, and jewelers.

(47,675 posts)The story line was much more believable than the original series of movies and the CGI allowed them to put some serious "ape" realism into the imagery. Humans in ape suits was just, well, a little weird. They used the CGI to impose expressions on the characters that said far more than words. I wasn't expecting much, but I was delightfully pleased.
Doc Holliday
(719 posts)That was way less hokey than the 60's ape suits, I have to admit.
I suppose that, in addition to not being a fan of anyone named Wahlberg, I was a bit groused about the way they funked up the 'remade' ending. That moment of realization when Taylor and Nova discover the wrecked Statue of Liberty was the best part.
