Fruitcake Shot Put contest to help the homeless

Another good use for Fruitcake that doesn't involve having to eat it.

November 17, 2012

PROVINCETOWN — Holiday angst? Come toss a fruitcake to combat homelessness.

The first Fruitcake Shot Put contest and holiday raffle fundraiser for the Homeless Prevention Council will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House.

Drag performer Thirsty Burlington will host the event. Shot-putters will be judged on form and distance of throw. The holiday raffle will feature a painting, "Captain Jack's Wharf," by Wellfleet artist Louie Doucette, along with a bake sale and more.

Founded in 1991, the Homeless Prevention Council serves eight Lower Cape towns. In 2011, by collaborating with other groups, the council helped 2,034 people.

To donate bake goods, to volunteer or for more information, call 508-255-9667, ext. 11.

of a sort, anyway, and it's just kinda weird to toss food around like that in the name of the homeless.
